My NT keeps freezing whenever market has big moves
Here's what fixed it for me: I put all my charts to have 2 days history when I'm trading live. So I have a workspace for trading live. When I'm reviewing or testing out ideas, I open a new chart and I put the history to the minimum I need (like last 20 days) or if it's in the past I put a week at a time with 1 day before so everything is in context. This seems to have fixed my performance problems.
I concur with short time charts to improve load up time and keep it all running.
NT workspaces corrupt weekly for me so I am fairly experienced at resetting them up.
I sincerely hope NT7 is better at handling a few charts - I have 12 with max 10 days bars.
It is a bit of a ram issue and an issue with IB so I am unsure quite where the blame lies - but when you trade live it is best to have a backup on your laptop or an other computer.
