It was a bit of a pain in the ass to be honest. In particular, you need to know which indicators use which DLLs.
So - I had to export them, remove the DLLs, remove the indicators, do the upgrade & then bring my DLLs and indicators back - all of which were exactly the same.
For me, it's not an issue but for my friend Dale who's in his 60's and uses my DLLs too - he's going to have to come round to mine for the afternoon so I can do it for him
I do hope Ninja don't make a habit of this.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Ahh.. so NinjaTrader adopted the Bill Gates (and General Motors before him) school of thought... let the consumer do your product testing for you.
I haven't upgraded yet, waiting until this computer dies and I buy one with Windows 7 on it. All things come to those who wait... I finally found an advantage to having Vista.
I'm just a simple man trading a simple plan.
My daddy always said, "Every day above ground is a good day!"
The following user says Thank You to ThatManFromTexas for this post:
I did the upgrade on a second PC that I use for charting on a sim account. I didn't lose the indicator's, I just can't compile them. I upgraded from the 7.0.1000.2v. using XP Pro. Below is the email reply from NT which is not very helpful, so I requested from my broker to send me a setup for SC. At this point I am very seriously considering just changing altogether to SC for my live account. NT is getting ridiculous with product and tech support. Below are the images of what happens when trying to compile the indicator's. Who knows, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,
Thank you for your note.
When upgrading to NinjaTrader 7.0.1000.4 from versions prior to 7.0.1000.3 it is necessary to remove the Custom Assemblies prior to the upgrade, and for more information please see the following links: NinjaTrader Critical Announcement
The items related to Windows 7 will not pertain to you, and it will only be the NinjaScript items.
Based on this the lack of NinjaScript Assemblies is expected, and you will want to contact the providers of your assemblies so that you can then install available versions for the most current releases of NinjaTrader.
Sincerely,
Ryan Olson

It looks like you have many references to items which are not in your Custom folder anymore, although your windows overlap and I can't see what they are. Did you delete some .DLL files from there instead if uninstalling the assemblies before updating? You need to remove those references to get rid of the errors.
My pure guess (with NT it is always difficult to understand), the lines errors refer to Public Holidays, did you updated them, also referred to XP and daylight saving time change there is an open thread you might check
I have updated to R4, because NinjaTrader developers have followed two of my suggestions for further enhancements (Fixes 4393 and 4394). Which proves that they listen to customers, if you don't give up repeating the message.
In my opinion, the only valid reason not to upgrade to R4 would be given by any incompatible vendor assemblies. If you use vendor assemblies, which have been protected with the Remotesoft Salamander tools, they will not work.
Otherwise the upgrade from NT 7.0.1000.2 needs to be done exactly as prescribed that is
- unistall all vendor assemblies first
- delete some of the files in the NinjaTrader 7 folder as instructed
Then it should work as expected. Also R4 is not a Beta (as R3, which allowed for testing of the changes).
