DiNapoli reinvented everything, which was already invented and renamed it after DiNapoli .....

The only thing you need to do, is allow for broken periods greater than 1 . I have attached a generic EMA indicator, which allows you to enter fractional periods. The chart shows my new EMA Crossover System, which uses an EMA (38.3) and an EMA (12.7).

this looks so similar to the ichimoku histogram, almost to the extent that if both were on same, they would overlap in ways that were confusing...

so I would presume that above the cloud, is not, are not buy signals, but evidence of buyers and higher prices over sellers, and the inverse...

You are not entirely correct. The Ichimoku indicator uses a displacement of 26 periods for the cloud.

Just for fun I have designed a fake Ichimoku indicator which use exponential moving averages for the Tenkan-Sen, Kijun-Sen and the Senkou Span B. Judge yourself how far the similarities are going.

This is the genuine Ichimoku Kinko Hyo chart ....

... and this is the fake chart built from EMAs, which looks like a female version of Ichimoku.

Fats, (@fattails)

the small mind would thank you for saying: "boy, you really told @kronie off; its about time, someone took him to task for talking about what he doesn't know..."

then, the average mind would say, wow, even I made that mistake and on a cursory level saw the similarity between these charts that use clouds, and likened it to the only other reference that they knew of, namely the Ichi couds...

then the intelligent mind would say, thanks to both us for extending this essential discussion, and asking what others were afraid to ask, and all benefit, because now we all see the difference,

so, thanks @fattails for reminding us that the essential difference were the 26 period default of the Ichi series and could, in contrast to your more reactive and relevant cloud series.

thanks for the two charts and discussion.

SMMA is simple EMAx2 - you not need to code it. Just use EMA instead. if you need 20 SMMA -> replase with 40 EMA
