I have extensive programming experience (SQL Server, mySQL, asp, php, VBA, javascript....), but nothing in NT. What I would like to do is get a head start in programming from an experienced NT programmer and strategy developer.

I would like to learn tips and tricks, debugging methodology and environment, other tools, etc and am willing to pay your hourly rate for this. Figuring 8 - 12 hours to start, then evaluate from there. Access to Skype would be helpful. Please PM my your rate.

Thanks.

True, but if you've ever worked in an environment with other developers, you know what I'm talking about. You hit a snag, you yell out, "Hey, any body ever encountered this before?", and in 2 minutes you have an answer that would have taken you much much longer to come up with on your own.

Time is money to me, and I respect other people's time. But if someone wants to answer my stupid newbee questions for free, I'm open to that too.

Tiger,

I second LukeGeniol ask your questions on futures.io (formerly BMT) and you will definitely get an answer. This forum rocks. And in the process we may all learn something!!

Tiger45, I joined this forum when it was first launched last year as the King Of Stupid Newbie Questions.

My only prior coding experience was some C++ stuff I did in the 90s. I'm no longer King, but maybe Prince or Court Jester and I do learn something new every day.

If you have your head around C# and the Visual Studio IDE, you can do some interesting things.

If you start to get frustrated with NT you can try your hand at writing to an API, and the Ninja API is great for starter projects.

There are documents for big league APIs available on the web. TT and CQG come to mind, but IB and Zenfire are popular in the retail space.

There are a lot of smart people here who post and help others out. A lot.

There is also a minority who haven't figured out how to use Google, but on the whole the signal to noise ratio here is better than most forums.

If you haven't already, I'd start with NT7 and not 6.5 for new development. Get your head around the objects, classes, and methods in NT and look for similar things in other API documentation so you can see where the requirements of trading have been met by software development. Think Event Driven and event processing.

Lastly, think of NT as a tool, and code in a way that your logic can be portable. In the end Ninja is a retail trading program (a very good one, mind you) so depending on your objectives it might only be used in the early parts of your journey.
