I'm curious to hear y'all's thoughts on the future of distributed retail trading platforms such as NinjaTrader. My only current justification for using NinjaTrader is strategy automation and being already very proficient with NinjaScript, but admittedly I'm not aware of the full capabilities of the likes of Trading View and how advantageous NT really still is in the automation department. Are we going to see web-based platforms begin to dominate even the retail algo/automation space in the next several years?

I'm trying to position my skills sets with where tech is headed. Thanks for your thoughts!

I cannot imagine web browser platforms taking over. I am not a fan. The tech may or may not be moving in that direction but I'm staying with NT or similar as long as I can. I can't imagine a browser being as fast.

NT8 is slow and limited today to Ninjatrader Brokerage.

I bought the full license and i used it with Phillip Capital. They never told me that it was limited.

Now i'm using another broker and my NT8 license is useless.

Did you call them to see if they would port it to the new broker? As long as it is one that supports NT, I was told they would switch it to my new broker. I haven't tried that though.

They reply me that only NT licenses bought before 2014 can connect to other brokers.

Today just NINJA Brokerage and Tradovate are allowed.

But when i bought the license (2019 or 2020) there were many brokers supported. They just changed the plan after so now my license is useless.

It's not correct at all. They should refund me.

I have tried many brokers, for stocks, FX, futures. I always come back to NT8.

I would rather spend good money on a gaming laptop versus trying other brokers again.

The web based sites that I tried, just didn’t have the abilities I wanted. And the other software that I used didn’t have the look / feel of NT8.

Thus, just last week, I put money back in NT.

I’m a big fan of Tradovate. It has all the things I need and works great no matter what operating system I’m using. There’s nothing slow about it and I don’t have to pay for a license.

Interesting, I bought it in 2013 :-)

Anyway, as Computer Engineer, I think a desktop applications is always better than a web browser app..... Better control, no interference with browser, javascript, pulggins, ...
