I also hate Ninjatrader but I must say that many many traders use other platforms. There are so many platforms: Tradestation, Sierrachart, Multicharts, Motivewaves etc... I think it really depends on what you are looking for

When you said this site, I thought you are talking about futures.io

Ninja is used by many - including me - so it's really just a preference.

Thank you. I think the biggest challenge I was having was trying to save workspaces and I figured it out FINALLY but it was frustrating because it doesn't work like all the videos show you. At least mine isn't but I finally have it working and I was so frustrated because I was wasting so much time having to recreate my charts I wasn't doing any trading and just getting frustrated.

They seem like an awesome company it just makes it more difficult when the videos aren't relevant any longer.

I would like to know if you can do scans like TOS as that would make life a lot easier too.

Type this in Google: Ninjatrader how to save a workspace

took 3 sec. to do and find the answer.

Thank you for some reason that didn't work. I've watched numerous videos and I spoke to their customer service I don't know why but for some reason, mine is not working that way but I figured out how to make mine work so ok there.

Even their guy from Ninjatrader customer service created a template on my Ninjatrader and that isn't working as he said it would either.

I don't know why.

But thanks for the video.

Why Do So Many People Recommend Ninjatrader? Am I missing something?

Hi @Trading in Canada,

I take it from your posts that "this site" refers to is the NinjaTrader site, not the futures.io site you're posting on.

I do sympathize. I used TOS for many years, then moved to NT and found it perplexing, because it was so different from what I was used to. Somewhat later (after a few other changes) I moved to Sierra Chart, and I should tell you that the shock of figuring out a new platform's documentation is probably greatest with Sierra Chart than anything else.... but I did persevere and it is now my hands-down favorite. My point is simply that a change in platform may require a change in something fundamental in how we look at and use the resources that are available in the new one, which will not be the same as the old.

For instance, can you do scans with NT the way you can in TOS? I don't know, because I've only used NT for futures trading, and there is no need for me to do stock scans. I would be surprised if you could, because NT's roots are in futures, but I don't know, and that's part of the differences.

I hope you can find your way with NT. It is actually a very powerful platform, but it is not at all like TOS, for good or for bad.

---------------------

On the assumption that you didn't mean that futures.io when you say "this site is such a tedious and illogically designed site," I am changing the title of this thread to refer to NinjaTrader, in order to be clear. If in fact you meant future.io, that is perfectly legitimate if that is how you have found futures.io to be, and I will change it back. I hope you haven't, but that is up to you. But please give your reasons if you have.

I'm also moving this thread from the general "Traders Hideout" section to "NinjaTrader", for the same reason, to make it more clear to others who may have an interest in NinjaTrader and your issues with it.

I will say that there is a huge number of NT users on this site, who will be able to give you a hand with anything that you can't find in the NT documentation. That's one of the things that people are usually willing to do here.

I hope you work out whatever issues you have with NT, or if not, find a platform that works better for you. This is a very personal issue, and there are many that may work if NT does not.

Bob.

Ninjatrader and few others are popular because they give traders the ability to do lot more like running their own programs/indicators/charting and backtesting on local data sets etc (be it self or 3rd party made), if you don't need that extra and often complicated functionality you are usually fine with even broker provided platforms.

This is because often the more functions a platform has the more complicated it can be, but usually if more people are using it its easier to find help.

What I'm trying to say here is that there is going to be a learning curve irrespective of which of these so called "professional" platforms you pick.

Hang in there.

Oh sorry yes..I was referring to Ninjatrader

What is frustrating for me is it is not consistently saving my workspaces. It does not follow the format shown in videos. I contacted to Ninjatrader and Zach who was very nice did a screen share and explained some things and set up a "template" then followed up with a video on how to open and save workspaces.

I followed paused etc but it still didn't work. I then found my own work around and I was able to save 3 charts then tonight I tried to save my rty workspace and it kept looping back and opening my ym workspace and wouldn't close it and kept getting stuck so I kept closing ninjatrader and reopening each time it would ask if I wanted to save RTY and YM even though it kept opening both each time ym and rty it had me worried as Zach said you can't have more than one workspace open at a time.

Then the last time I shut them down...bang it deleted everything in RTY and I went to "restore" it but when it does this there is nothing to restore which makes it even more frustrating.

Also the template Zach created on my screen share with him also isn't work right. It is suppose to be a template you can load when you open different instruments but because he created it with the es chart, if you try to open another instrument and load this template it loads ES y axis data so the charts are blank like NQ..

There are definitely things I like about Ninjatrader. It is a lot better than say overcharts in some ways like it doesn't drain my RAM like overcharts does. If I could get it to work like all the videos it would be great but I am learning it because I signed up for the earn2trade and they use ninjatrader. I tried using jigsaw but rithmic data feed but it doesn't work with jigsaw charting....

I signed up 2 months ago and I have wasted more time and money just trying to get my charts to work properly. I'm so fed up...lol

I don't have the gumption to learn another charting system at the moment. Kudos to you for learning an even more complicated charting system like Sierra.. you can't see me but I'm bowing down to you...lol
