Hope this isn't off topic - but since I saw fit to trash talk NT some on this thread earlier, I thought I would follow up.

I spent last weekend checking into other platform options - namely Multi Charts and Sierra Charts. MC sounds like a great package, but simple doesn't have the features I have come to expect (thanks to NT) as a discretionary trader. SC came very close, but the implementation wasn't as trim as NT has allowed the same thing to be (I would have to have something like 100 charts up for the same setup on SC). I really liked what I saw on SC - I spoke to customer service and they said to check back in 3 months for the new features.

For those interested, i trade any number of stocks during the day (usually 15 to 25 on the list) off of the 5 minute and 15 minute charts. NT allows me to setup the list on an MA and link to one multi-time series chart. I like to keep a close eye on the Q's and SPY as well.

After the research I decided to have one more go at NT - so I un-installed everything and re-installed and re-created everything in NT from scratch: workspaces, templates, database. I continued to experience the same bugs that I have been experiencing.

Since I had a clean install, I thought I would take the time to mention this to NT. They responded and we managed to actually pinpoint the most important problems (IMO) this week: disappearing chart drawings, sporadic candlestick spacing, and the changing ATM strategy. Whoot! Two of them were actually addressed with the release of .22.

Anyhoo - for what it is worth.

I agree with you.
If NT keeps up the speed by which they are fixing the bugs, they will be ahead in the game.

I went up to NT 7 over the weekend as I am re-vamping my whole system... Is anyone running using Win 7 now?? It would
be a great time to get off XP.

Starting from your Windows impunt the question is could be also the windows version that affect the NT7? I run it on WinXP proofessional and Win 7 ultimate, both updated with the last and all realese of .net and I have few minor issue. I remember when I used for few month Win Vista (SVISTA for me, in Italian mean Blunder ) I had more problem on NT 6.5 too.

I have been asked if I (and accused that I ) work for NT: I do not.

I give them $$$ for goods and services, not the other way around. I volunteered to be a beta tesater, I was never paid. Did it because I wanted 7 to do things. It Was beta testing so I would have access and at least have enough influence that they could not just ignore me.

That said, my support is due to self interests. I want Ninja Trader to drop all 6.X support and concentrate all of it resources on 7.X and up. Why would I not want this? As far as I can tell 7 is so much better than 6.5. There is no reason to expect it to be supported any after 12 month

Hope my part did 6.5 in, it was not anywhere as good as 7.

I have been a beta tester myself. Found a lot of bugs, so the guys were not happy about the bugs, but in the end most of them have been removed, so I contributed my share to make it a better product, even if i was wrong in some cases.

Yes it is time to move to NT7 for discretionary traders.

I have a very strange nt 7 problem. when I start nt, my dom is empty. meaning that market depth is empty. there are no numbers in the buy and sell column. if I switch instrument, it is working fine. but if I switch back, it's still empty.

I can solve the problem by selecting an instrument I don't use and then disconnect. after connecting , I switch the instrument back to the one I need, and everything is working fine.

wondering if anybody else has a similar present.

You might have to reset the instruments........there have been some changes at the exchanges lately.

If you are not connected to real-time data the DOM is always empty. If you are connected to a FOREX instrument the bid and ask will not be correctly displayed but just the last trade. You may need to switch to the FX Pro tool

For futures and shares the DOM should always display the current best bid and best ask. If you set Show Market Depth = true, it should display market depth as well, if you have subscribed for the data.

There is also a specific issue: If you toggle your chart to an instrument, which is not in the default list, and the DOM is connected to the chart, that might create a problem as well.

Otherwise, I have had no problems so far with NT7.

Nothing in the log tab?

You can chart the same instrument no problem?

Mike
