Well it may not be a ...can’t live without it...feature, but I sure do like the chart trader. I’m not sure if its the only platform or not , with the ability to trade off from charts but it was the first that I’ve found with this feature. It sure slower than trade off from DOMs , but I get more visual feedbacks about my open positions, which I like but not sure if it will be good for me on the long run. Still in newbie phase.

tos is the other platform I use. So my comparisons are directly against tos.

Chart Trader is far more efficient in NT8 than in tos and far more responsive.

Ability to have indicators from multiple timeframes on a single chart that I'm trading off of.

Lightweight client compared with tos that is far more responsive.

Automated Trade Management capability affording me the ability to manage my position once I enter a trade. Far more feature-rich than tos.

Option to set up multiple DOMs that are dedicated to different instruments that I trade.

My favorite is the Strategy Analyzer function. It has great potential for strategy optimization!
It just needs to work. Currently there is critical item non-functionality. Needs to be fixed.

Will NinjaTrader fix Memory Leak in Strategy Analyzer?

There is an issue of a memory leak in the Strategy Analyzer Optimizer that has been confirmed by support using SampleMACrossover Strategy in Safe mode. This means it is inherent in the NinjaTrader platform code.
It causes a resource exhaustion error with Committed and Working memory maxing out past the RAM in my case past 32 GB. This condition kills NinaTrader. One then has to restart. This memory leak makes the functionality of the Optimizer non-functional for any large optimization due to the fatal error.
Here is a picture of the resource monitor before and during an optimization.

I have submitted this issue on the support forum.
I have noticed memory leak issues in Strategy Analyzer in NT8 go back to 2015 on the support forum, all unresolved:

From 2015:
https://forum.ninjatrader.com/forum/historical-beta-archive/version-8-beta/77257-strategy-analyser-eating-memory
Outcome: Submitted a report to the team looking into it.

From 2016:
https://forum.ninjatrader.com/forum/historical-beta-archive/version-8-beta/89191-strategy-analyzer-reserves-over-9gb-of-memory
Outcome: No resolution.

From 2017: Strategy Analyzer not collecting garbage
https://forum.ninjatrader.com/forum/ninjatrader-8/platform-technical-support-aa/95970-memory-not-released-after-strategy-analyzer-end-of-run
Outcome: No resolution

From 2018:
https://forum.ninjatrader.com/forum/ninjatrader-8/platform-technical-support-aa/110359-strategy-analyzer-memory-leak-issue-question
Outcome: No resolution

My post to support 2020:
https://forum.ninjatrader.com/forum/ninjatrader-8/platform-technical-support-aa/1091049-memory-leak-in-strategy-analyzer

There does not seem to be any resolution to any of these posts concerning the memory leak in the Strategy Analyzer.

5 years of the same problem going unsolved and then getting similar responses to 5 year old posts. Many of the posters have given NT possible solutions for fixing this memory leak. I am wondering why a critical item in fundamental functionality is not being fixed for 5 years. These posters have been waiting for 5 years with no results.

I have a significant project and have invested a lot of money into development that requires NinjaTrader.
Is NinjaTrader going to be serious about fixing this critical item of fundamental functionality? I need to know and make plans for my project. NinjaTrader has tremendous potential for a strategy trading platform. That is why I chose it. But that tremendous potential is for nothing if this memory leak is not fixed. It means the real functionality of trading the futures markets with strategies using NinjaTrader is non-functional, and fatal. It seems to have gotten lip service for 5 years. This is critical item non-functionality.

Ray, what should I expect from NinjaTrader? Are you going to personally oversee this to make sure it gets properly resolved?

I now have time to go back and look at SierraChart, one of the outstanding SC's feature is it allows you to have a fix workspace. A fix workspace allows you to have a consistent organized view day in day out. NT is hunt and peck at whatever chart on top for the day.

NT7 Strategy Analyzer was so easy to use.....I haven't yet figured NT8 out.....any training anywhere....NT8 seems to be very difficult...it is unusable....I have to do all my testing in NT7 but the indicators I want are in NT8......very frustrating......it may be me....but NT8 Strategy Analyzer is a poor piece of software compared to NT7....

I like NinjaTrader's C# program ability. It is rich.
At present, I don't think there is anything on the market that competes with Ninja trader's program flexibility.
I wish they would expand it even more to include chart positioning and on the fly user interaction with program drawn objects.

I have been looking at other platforms recently and I have to honestly say I prefer Ninja Trader over what I have seen so far. Chart trader is a feature I couldn't do without. To be able to quickly move your stop or target anywhere you want and see them visually is definitely something I like. Most of the platforms I tried either didn't have this feature or it didn't work as well. I also like using hot keys.. For example I can drag my target if it's too far from the price with my mouse and at the same time use a hotkey to move the stop to breakeven or close out the trade. Maybe some other platforms have this, but I didn't notice many being able to move the stop to breakeven on a hotkey. For my active trading style, Ninja seems well suited.

Failure is not an option

I also like NT flexibility and the ability to create precise custom UI/chart skins/theme.

Right now I'm building 2 NT8 skins based on light and dark Solarized color scheme and I really like them, will be posting a new thread about them as soon as I can upload images !

I have used many platforms.
I have stayed with Ninjatrader the longest.

However, that is not why I'm posting in this thread.
As I viewed the thread I saw a 'thanks' on a post from someone I followed many years ago and would like to use this opportunity to ask them to start posting and being active again.
@aslan has so much wisdom. I never had thanked aslan for all of the great information he posted and inspired me to continue trading.

Thank you @aslan!
