Fat Tails, one last question. I've noticed something odd occurring with the pivot levels. The price levels have changed on me the last two days a few minutes into the trading session. Not sure what's going on there.

Here are my current settings:

- Session Template: CME US Index Futures ETH
- Day Session Pivots: False
- Prior Day High/Low/Close: DailyBars
- Calculate on Close: True
- Connect Kinetick data feed first. Arrange chart in daily bars and then convert to intra-day minute chart.
- Connect ZenFire data feed. Pivot levels are correct at first but then change.

Please let me know if you spot anything wrong on my settings.

By the way, I have a Pivot Point on TF at 612.30 (wrong value) and when I started this morning it was at 611.70 (correct value).

Thanks again!

Hi Vegasfoster,

Thank you for the comment. I've made a good living trading but recently switched to Ninja because of my frustration with paying for charting packages when good data can be obtained free. I guess I've now discovered the downside of free as well with regards to my "pivot dilema". Lol!

Question, do you use pivots on your Ninja charts? And if so, what is your preferred method? Just looking for a variety of options here.

Thanks again!

I am exaggerating of course, but I key the open high and close in manually from this site Daily Notes - Metrics for Day Traders and then check the pivot is the same.

612.40 was the pivot for yesterday, while 611.70 is the pivot for today. If you horizontally scroll back to yesteray's data, yesterday's pivot will be displayed where applicable.

Now, there are two points to note:

After the session close, NinjaTrader will not automatically download the daily data from Kinetick. You would need to do that manually by using the historical data manager, or by opening a daily chart. It is obvious that the pivots will not be correct in DailyBars mode before daily data has been downloaded.

Second problem is that NinjaTrader is event driven. If you set the indicator to CalcOnBarClose - which is the default setting of the indicator - NinjaTrader will not display the pivots for the new session, unless the first bar of the new session is closed.

If the daily pivot 612.40 is still displayed now, it is probably that the daily data has not been downloaded. Otherwise send me a screenshot and the exact settings.

There is a better source: the original one. That is the website of CMEGroup. I never use any secondary sources. There is no advantage using a secondary source. You can put a link in your browser to the CME website. For ES you will find the correct values here:

E-mini S&P 500

OK, I think I fixed the issue (hopefully).

Do you leave the Kinetick connected throughout the day in addition to your regular data feed? This may be where my problem is.

I was connecting to Kinetick first and then connecting to Zenfire. I would then disconnect Kinetick after bringing up a daily chart and found that the data was eventually overridden by the Zenfire data which could explain why my pivot levels would change all of a sudden. At least it seems that way.

Thanks again for your continued help with this. I greatly appreciate it.

Cheers,

Cheers,

If you do not leave Kinetick connected, Zenfire might override the correct data with something different, though I am not sure. I leave Kinetick connected to block the access of my broker feed to daily data. You would need to ask at the NinjaTrader forum.

OK, perfect. Thank you! That must be where I was doing something wrong. I'll be sure to keep the Kinetick feed connected as well. Everything is looking correct now.

Thanks again!

Fat Tails, quick question. Do you keep Kinetick connected in first position and then your live data provider in second connection position throughout the day?

Just curious, I connected to Kinetick first thing this morning and then connected to my Zen-Fire for live data. Pivot levels were correct and ready to go Daily Pivot at 622.40. When I went to place a trade, it rejected my order because I had Kinetick connected in first position stating that Kinetick doesn't support orders, etc. where my intention was to obviously use Zen-Fire.

I then did the opposite, connected to Zen-Fire first and then to Kinetick and of course got the wrong pivot levels (daily pivot changed to 623.90). Ended up having to trade without pivots again today.

I've been going back and forth with Ninja Trader Support as well and they aren't sure what to do.

The only solution I've come up with at this point is to open another account for trade executions only that way I can can keep the Kinetick connection in first position but that seems redundant.

Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated.

If you connect to Kinetick first, you will likely be in simulation mode, as Kinetick does not support any account. So you need to select your trading account by using the dropdown menu for both the DOM and the chart trader. Afterwards there should be no problem.

I do trade this way, connected to Kinetick, then connected to Interactive Brokers (I do not have Zenfire). So far no problems.

OK, thanks for clarifying. Not sure what happened earlier today but I just placed a limit order and it went through no problem. I may have had the DOM on SIM earlier. In any event, thanks again for your continued help with this. I'm good to go now.

Best regards,
