Been researching / contemplating the purchase of NinjaTrader and routinely see “stability issues”. When I dig a bit deeper, it seems that the complaints root cause is due to add-on related issues.
This seem accurate to the community?
Haven’t seen anyone say they were using “out of the box” and experiencing stability problems.
I’ve spent some time in NT demo and had zero problems with the app or with customer support.
NT8 was a total rewrite of the previous version, and took a long time to settle down, through different updates. Because of the very basic changes that were made, often writers of indicators and other code did not realize the changes that were necessary to their coding practices, and this caused a lot of stability and performance issues that were due to the added code.
I haven't used NT8 for a while now, but when I last worked with it (some months ago now), it was fine when used on its own, or with properly-written add-ons.
There may still be some issues -- others will have to say what their current experience has been -- but I would say that it's a perfectly reasonable trading platform, and I stayed with it for a good many years. As you mentioned, customer support is excellent.

I've had NT8 close on me, just out of nowhere, 3 times ever since February, and this is without any add-ons by third parties. My computer didn't freeze up cause I could restart the platform right away and log in again. Not bad I guess, but still annoying. Maybe I have to many indicators running. I use alot of their OrderFlow+ tools.
Ninjatrader does have an emergency number to call in case you are in a trade and can't access the platform. Or at least I hope that's what it's for. I have never used it cause I wasn't in a trade when those shut downs happened.
We have over 60,000 active users of which near 70% are now using NinjaTrader 8. The overwhelming majority of the time issues are a result of 3rd party scripts that NinjaTrader cannot control.
