Yes, it may well be having a Unix host makes a difference. I did try and give priority to the VM, but I seem to remember it being difficult to give it more than the host. It also may be the tolerence of my broker and geographical position of my PC pushed things over an edge. Zen Fire and London.

It's not Unix who make the difference, VM works fine with Windows server based machines (Windows XP 64, Windows Server 2003/2008/2008R2). The main point is you need to get the good processors, paravirtualization ready.

Maybe. All I know is I got it in VM, but not in the host. Same PC, very good processor (i7 920) and 12GB RAM, CPU rarely > 10%.

You could well be right, but having used Unix and Windows for 25 years now, I know whose process scheduling I would trust more.
