Machine ID and Virtual Machines / rename NinjaTrader.exe
I use a demo GAIN account connection setup on each VM. Obviously it is only forex pairs, but does give a working solution. I havent tried it yet, but I do plan to record data on the host system and share the file to each VM for analysis (not trading from a VM)
Have you done this ok with NT7b19 ?? I seem to have issues with trying it on my trading machine (license), not to mention you cant skin NT to a different colour to not get confused between versions when they are running at once
Yes, it works with b19 too. But only my NT6.5 have the regular license, my NT7 have a demo license number (as it is only for sim or coding).
You are right about the skins, it can be confusing, some discipline needed here (for me it's NT7 always on the same screens, NT6.5 always on the others).
I have tried that ... but I cant resist the urge to use all my screen when I am working on a project and eventually I get the 'wuzzyz' wondering what is what.
Are the NT versions used by the brokers 'branded' with their company name (I am thinking like you can brand Internet Explorer ... maybe a registry tweak to display a more useful heading than 'Control Centre' to help out those among us that 'somewhereis' what we are looking for ...
update: I can rename to NT6.5.exe and run it at same time at NT7b20, but I can not successfully rename NT7 and run it at same time as NT6.5. This is in Win7 Enterprise x64, running 32bit NT6.5 & 32bit NT7b20. RtClick the newly made NT6.5.exe desktop shortcut as ADMINISTRATOR may be a prerequisite
I doing my backtesting and strategy development in a VM Workstation. Till now there aren't any issues with licensing, because the third-party vendor has a own "one session" at a time license server. But now i am afraid to get the next tool, because it is bounded to my machine id. The problem is, that my VM properties like CPU/RAM count 32/64bit, count of Harddisk can vary often, to adapt to my current requirements.
So can anybody tell me WHAT components affect the ninjatrader machine id? I don't want to bother the vendor every time when i enlarge my associated VM RAM and so on.
