Yes vps good too... But here for my business home office, I went for the dual lines into the house for redundancy. But I also have a third LTE setup as backup, plus a whole house generator

planetkill View Post
I use a vps because some order types are held locally on the machine before being sent to an exchange. This means that if your local connection is disconnected, your orders won't be fulfilled. For example, market if touch orders or simulated stops. It's true there is added latency for the remote desktop connection, but that added lag hasn't been a problem for trading.

Why does ninjatrader lose connection to data?

I have used your platform(s) for 10 years now and the one issue I can not seem to figure out is lost connection.

It seems to happen no matter the internet I have, the computer I use, the VPS I pay for, the feed I run.

All I want for Christmas is to be able to run my systems Sunday through Friday without a drop in connection.

Please help me understand why this happens, why it seems to be more common on NT than any other platform I have used and what I can do to ensure the most stable connection?

When I have inquired in the past about this through the support channels, everyone points fingers. Ninja says its my internet, the vps provider says we're stable its the platform... round and round we go.

Hi Fibbee:

I have similar story to tell the founder of NT, Raymond....

Why or why, did all these false accusation even seem probable?

my email is [email protected]

Let us compare note, shall we?

I am also a life member of NT

Let's connect.

Ninja is complete garbage, but everyone is still using it, they will always blame something/someone but not themselves. I moved on and got rid of my lifetime license.

Seems like an exaggeration.

I was very happy with NT7 and never understood the complaints. With NT8 there's just been a bit too many headaches and troubles.

When a new version is launched which is actually inferior in several ways - then that's not evolution, but devolution.

I still can't chart a daily RTH bar (09:30-16:00 US session) without using a custom script.

Seriously?

Beyond these annoyances I'm mostly happy with NT8, though. It's stable even during periods of high volatility.

Bottom line: Not super happy, but happy enough that I'm not leaving yet.

Not sure applying the correct Trading Hours Template qualifies as "using a custom script"?

It's possible that this works for 390 minute bars/daily bars. Is the load time for such 390 minute bars just as fast as regular daily bars?

I don't think it's correct for weekly/monthly bars though.

It's been discussed on the NT forums.

NT,

Is it true that NinjaTrader Brokerage charges a $50 fee to liquidate a position on margin violation?

Never heard that before, but if true I would suspect your doing it to reduce your client turnover rate (blown up accounts)?

Someone said it was a hidden fee (another thread) so I thought it appropriate for you to be able to comment one way or the other.

Yes it is true, I've had it happen to me twice. The 1st time is free, then $50 each time after.

Don't know if this is all brokers, but they also require full intial margin for trades between 4 - 4:15 est. I was going for a quick scalp between 4 and 4:15, but any trades after 4 pm require the full initial margin. However ninjatrader still accepts the order instead of rejecting it, then they auto liquidate it and charge the fee.

I guess it's not really a hidden fee because they did email me after the 1st free liquidation informing me of the fee.

But that order at 4pm should have been rejected! Just like if I place a 100 lot order, it's rejected and the error says how much account balance is required.

During the covid crash, NT was adjusting margin requirements live on the fly. I would place 100 lots orders to see the rejection error of how much the live margin requirements were. So I know NT can adjust margins both on their end and the client end at the same time. There's no excuse for why they accept orders between 4-4:15 and auto liquidate them. I want my $50 + bid ask spread + round trip commission back!

Yes this is true, posted on our website and standard in the industry. There are brokers that charge this fee per contract, ours is independent of contract size. For comparison, I just checked TradeStation, they charge $75.

Attention Race Fans!

I am not sure if I am overstepping with this post and likely not the right spot for it...if I am, sorry Mike.

NinjaTrader sponsors Precision Racing League, a virtual racing league using the iRacing platform. Brett (NinjaTrader Product Manager) and I both drive for our team which is broadcast almost every Monday night. Tonight's race is at Watkins Glen and starts at 9 PM ET. You can watch the live stream at the link below.
