I'm new to NinjaTrader, and have a question. Coming from ThinkOrSwim, I trade on a 1-tick range chart. It looks like this:
The same instrument and time period in Ninja Trader with a 1 tick range chart looks like this:
Notice the difference in the circled area. In ToS, the price oscillated 4 times between two prices. So there are 4 bars. In NT7, that's represented as 1 bar.
I really prefer the ToS display as it gives me a better idea of how much action took place in that rotational level, where as with NT7, there is no visual information that it "stuck" at that price at all. It could have been a touch.
Anyone know if it's possible to achieve the ToS presentation in NT7? Ie., each time it changes from one price to another, it creates a new bar, even if it's back and forth between the same two prices.
Thanks!
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I never saw, that someone uses 1 tick breakoutbars, but each trader is different
Long story short, of course the Ninja-chart is correct, because breakout-bar means, the next bar opens 1 tick above or below the high/low of the current bar, so it CANNOT be that 2 bars with the same high/low are overlapping (as your ToS-chart shows).
Just my 2 cents, try it with 1 tick Renko, if you want such tight bar or perhaps 2 ticks Renko.
Here is a version of the Point-O bar for study purposes (i.e., not for trading).
Having searched high & low for a port of the NT6.5 PointOriginal (Point-O) bar to NT7 in order to study it and failing to find it, attached is a quick translation derived …
after installing the cs file, open a new chart, go to setting and follow the pic notes. I also include a sample of my setup.
Unlike traditional range bars, these hold the range from open to close at a constant.
Import like a normal indicator, then on your chart use Format Data Series to select PointO and the range.

This looks exactly like what I need! Thanks so much!
Unfortunately, I'm having trouble getting it installed in NT7. I've posted the problem in the download thread, but I'll post here as well:
when I try to use the NT7 Import NinjaScript Archive function, I get this error:
"Import failed. The NinjaScript Archive File may contain duplicate method names that already exist on your PC or there is a required file missing on either your PC or in the import archive."
I'm pretty new to NT, and haven't run into this before. Anyone know what causes this error?
1) don't use 'import' for this cs file
2) copy cs file to folder \Documents\NinjaTrader 7\bin\Custom\Type
3) import any indicator you import successfully before ( answer no to everything since you already import it before)
4) look for pointO in bar type
Thanks. Tried that and it looks like that indicator is trying to override some methods that don't even exist on the base BarsType class. Have you used this indicator successfully under NT7? Looks like it's looking for methods that don't even exist in NT7.
