Webinar: Preparing for NinjaTrader 8 (NT8) with Raymond Deux, CEO of NinjaTrader
I am. I have had many stumbling blocks and given @NinjaTrader some big lumps on FIO. To their credit, they have always answered my criticism and they even reached out to me personally.
They always knew that by opening up the UI, one wrong line of code on a 3rd party indicator will crash NT8 to its knees. And that is what it actually was, a 3rd party indicator causing my issues.
Much to work through, but I really like the way NT8 is taking shape. I think there will be some very good 3rd party add-ons in a few years.

- Trade what you see. Invest in what you believe -
--------------------------------------------------------
Great, looks really good! I like the work they did on the framework to have more coherence for the long run. Multi threaded is really nice!
Feature/enhacement from NT7 I hope are in 8:
1) being able to use transparency, for all colors
2) NT + IB, let say I have a c++ strategies running with IB and I have NT strategies and NT discretionary (let say they all trade ES), sometime I would like to be able to use NT as a monitoring tool, so I can see all the orders of all the ATS running connected on IB (I think this is kind of ok today), but sometime I want to use a NT just as a discretionary trader and seeing all the positions of all the ATS (NT and C++/IB) while you are trading ES makes it really really hard to trade (from the chart trader). Basically a mode where I can see only orders sent by "this specific NT" vs "by what ever report IB (meaning all connections)" will be AWESOME
3) Stability improvement, when I optimize on NT7 , it too often block. I have a friend who use something else with 30+ strategies running live and he can also backtest or optimize at the same time (not advise but he can, that works well)
4) More than 1 instance per machine will be nice (for robustness)
5) Continuous contract (stitching) issues; download and export data slow and can erase previous older data; export only 1 by 1; when I download a lot of data from Continuum some data are not always well stitch together from Daily, Minutes and tick data;.....Having 1 db for all the divers tools will be great as I'm a bit confuse sometime with replay, download, it seems there are many etc...
6) I have 20 chart trader open, then I need to go thought each one of them and switch them one by one to the right account, every morning....it will be great to be able to toggle all of them with 1 action, all "sim/no trading" versus "live account".
7) I have very little free time (kids, work, life), sometime I end up spending way more QA time (exchanging email, reproducing issues, trying on different computers, on the phone or teamviewer with someone from NT to look at a bug etc...Also I give new features ideas) and often after all this time, I learn it will be fix in NT8 and not on the current version I use NT7, which is ok but an incentive to free QA will be nice as quite frankly sometime I hesitate doing it because of the time it requires to report an issue (Ideas: money, new license, upgrade license
All of those and more have been reported, I really hope some are in...
For the best of NT
The difficult thing was that I was running NT8 together with a forex platform called FXCM. I was using one NT8 strategy that I wrote myself based on a couple of synchronised series. It would be running and then it would crash and cancel all my orders. In the beginning I wasn't sure who to ask. I tried FXCM and they said it sounds like an NT8 issue. Then i tried Ninja but they could not get to the bottom of it. Once I sent all of my logs and they still did not resolve it. So recently I hired a professional programmer and he re-wrote my indicator/strategy and it is much more stable now. Apart from that I only have one third party software which is jigsaw trading. In the last few weeks, since having retired my synchronised series strategy I have been having much less faults. Probably just once every day I get some sort of window that pops up saying something was not initialised correctly. So I close NT8 down and restart it and it's okay for another session. At the moment I can't even get my market replay to work on NT8. Have not had much success from the NT8 support desk so am inclined to not report things these days as I am not confident that anything will be resolved.
Thanks Mike. I thought it was a good overview of the new features. I have used NT7 for a few years and have resisted looking into NT8 until it got closer to release.
There seems to be some useful improvements overall, particularly the multi-threading operation. The Strategy Developer also looks promising. I currently use Bloodhound but maybe some things might be just as easy to develop within NT now.
If anyone knows if NT8 Multi-Broker can handle and simultaneously manage the same trade with one or more brokers I would be interested in their comments. The ability to run the same trade but with say a different number of contracts via two or more different brokers and/or accounts would be useful to me.
hey there...have started using Ninjatrader8 this past week. Some of the stuff seems darn good. So 1st impressions great.
Currently running Ninjatrader7 & 8 simultaneously...will be doing so for next several months. Did see some quirks and going back and forth with support which is very responsive.
thnx
edit:-
1st time on Ninja8..so must add quirks could be on my end. But loved watching the webinar. Also darn glad to know Ninja7 will be there for years....as am having some stuff developed on it...simultaneously for Ninja8.
For me one of the biggest reasons to move and am very excited to look into this very deeply "Data" what @NinjaTrader shared on his slide decks.
I just wanted to say a BIG Thank you for a great webinar on NinjaTrader8, it was a great webinar.
It was interesting that you said that you are looking forward to somebody developing a Elliott Wave Indicator for NinjaTrader 8 and that you had not seen one for NinjaTrader as yet. So could I just remind you that we (MTPredictor) have been a development partner with you since 2005, (and over the last 11 years, we have worked very closely with you and your team) and our main tool is Elliott Waves. So, yes, one of your oldest and longest running partners has a Elliott Wave tool
We have also completed our update for NinjaTrader 8, and are ready to release once NT8 goes into production release.
I include a screen shot showing the tool in action. This also shows how we have added our MTP tools into the NinjaTrader8 Chart tool bar (another nice features that is good in NT8 that allows developers more control over the user UI)
Thanks
