I have just started using Ninja Trader. I have the lifetime licence. I'm using Continuum as my broker and Kinetick as my back up data provider. I'm very impressed with Ninja Trader thus far as well as Kinetick. The only drawback I have so far is that I would like the application to be password protected, preferably to have it open with a password stored in Robo Form or something similar.

What I'm doing at the moment is when I log off I delete my password in connection options and use RoboForm to restore the password when I add in the connection to continuum when I log in once again.

My question is, if there is anyone out there that is computer savvy enough that knows how to open ninja trader application with password protection, I don't think there is no feature for it at the moment that I know of. So I'm looking for a work around possibility. Is it possible to use bit locker or something? I hope this is a relevant question for this forum, as its not trade related, but I think if you have funds in continuum brokerage, password protection should be a consideration.

I've ran it passed support but they were unable to help. I came up with the Robo Form solution above myself, but wanted something more practical.

Use windows security and lock your desktop. Only allow physical access to those you trust, and a password would be needed to log in to windows

The thing is I wouldn't leave my on line bank account open like that, (closing down desktop and only let people I trust have access to my computer) so not sure why Ninja would allow a trading platform with brokerage to be so unsecure.

But the point Mike made is that if you use the standard built-in Windows 'Lock' and/or 'Switch User' facilities then your desktop does not have to be shutdown but remains secure and password protected, so there is no problem. You could even have two separate accounts for yourself if you want.

I know the point Mike was making, so never mind. Ill keep doing what I'm doing. I'm quite sure you wouldn't leave your on line banking account open or without password protection 24/7 and use the standard windows lock and/or switch user facility for protection.

I would probably have the same amount in the brokerage account as I have in my bank accounts, so yes it is a high concern for me and seems quite absurd that NJ7 are so casual about security.

If someone has physical access to the machine then passwords aren't very helpful. If there is a trust problem with someone with physical access you are SOL.

If on the other hand you are trying to prevent mistakes like a mouse click entering a trade while you are away, windows lock is the solution.

Thousand ninja users use all kind of connections from automate to manual but I didn't see any comment about getting hack maybe because most of them already watching their account very closely.

I kind of disagree with you that passwords aren't very helpful. If my laptop is stolen whilst travelling and the thief was able to by pass my windows password an encrypted password for the initial opening of NT7 would slow them down enough for me to ring Ninja Trader to put a block on my account.

Once the application is open then its solely my responsibility and if I leave to the machine to have a break then windows lock is the solution. Any way I don't trade while Im around people only in privacy.

Any way, Im not rubbishing NT7. I actually love the platform, very easy to use, responsive and its making me money (small amount)

Couldn't agree more. I found your post by googling "Ninja Trader Security"...they have NOTHING by way of security...it's a real concern. Coming from IB, I'm used to using electronic tokens to verify me as the user after already submitting my password. Anyone with the same name as you could easily have a wire sent from your account as that's the only security measure they have. Crazy.
