Anybody else experince more than usual performance problem with Ninjatrader ( freezing ) in the last 2-3 weeks?
I know that there is more volume trading in general which causes the temporaer freeze but its not just 2-3 times a day or @ the close ( where i always had it in the past ) its alot of the time ( more in the US session than in the europe session)
I use the same two workspaces I always used.
I restart the programm before the US session beginns.
I have IB and continuum data connected and didnt change anything ( indicators, etc) that I could think of kight have initiated the problems (cause more freezes than in the past ).
Thanks
(a) Freeze of datafeed: Wven with a single chart open and low CPU load, incoming data is delayed.
Can be caused by a problem with your internet connection, or any bottleneck upstream (dataprovider or exchange).
(b) Freeze of NinjaTrader due to high CPU load:
Is typically caused by lots of charts with badly coded indicators running in CalculateOnBarClose = false (recalculated with every incoming tick).
You also need to pay attention to hidden workspaces (ckeck under File -> Workspaces), which are running in the background and therefore also take their toll on the CPU.
To find out whether your case is (a) or (b) please open the process explorer (download from Micorsoft Technet) and monitor the CPU load, when NinjaTrader is running.
In case the CPU load is high (NinjaTrader uses 1 kernel only), then you should check your indicators and take off the offending stuff.
Regarding (a). I guess there is nothing I can do about this and I know that many other traders had problems with their feeds in the volume peaks in the last couple days.
For (b) im aware of that ( that's why I wrote that I used the same 2 workspace I use since quite a while. CPU load was never an issue.
I was just interessted if more NT useres experience the same "freezing" issues WAY more often the usual last couple days.
I guess the best option is running two different NT systems ( one for charting and a "naked" execution platform) ?
Yes, I have been complaining about volume spike data freezes a lot lately too. I even thought I had to buy a new computer. I hope I don't go out and plop out a few thousand on a gaming computer only to find out the data freezes are still there, caused by volume at the exchanges that they cannot handle. I was in the TST chat room the day before yesterday and their T4 data feed servers went down for several minutes due to the heavy volume selling in the indexes. I know there is a lot of volume. I want to go back to get Sam to set me back up with a VPN. I think this will help a lot. I contacted Ninjasupport complaining about the volume freezes, and this nice guy, Patrick, walked me through running everything on the close and not to have extra workspaces up and keeping the number of my charts up to a minimal number. My strategies are sophisticated he said, and I just looked at what I was doing with them and thought that wasn't really true, they are pretty simple, straight forward. Nothing like Daniel Roe's strategies. Once I get back up with Sam's VPN and this helps, I will repost here. Thanks for letting me know other people are struggling with this too. I thought it was just my little laptop.
