I am not shy about criticizing NT7. And for discretionary futures tradng, I would have to say that it is a heaping pile of garbage. There is just to much competition from many deep pocketed software vendors. Thus, you can get a better software practically for free.

However, based on the NT8 functionality upgrades I've seen. Wey are on a more competitive footing and quite possibly be better off than with those thousand dollar a month systems when all the potential enhancements are considered. I am not saying you have to buy them all. I am saying you will be able to have NT8 according to your personal workflow for less money than institutional software. There is no better time to have own the NT platform. Not even during the previous major upgrade.

As for spreading, let's not go there.

Additionally, the last poster is not only a programmer but a person who works in a professional trading environment with access to much more sophisticated systems.

I can find no better endorsement.

Ugh Spread trading, that is a big miss around most trading software, NT included.

Hello Programmers

For us non programers can you give few example of what the new .NET tools in NT8 will allow you to do that couldn't be done before.

Maybe some SWAGs on what kind of things we can expect to see people created for NT8.

And also How does this compare to other platform capabilities TradeStation Sierra Chart MT4, whatever?

thanks just curious

I don't know all the details, but my understanding is that with the new NT you can pretty much program anything. I think there's better access to the underlying database, Dom, charts, etc. Being .NET allows interaction with external programs and operating system, as before. You could collect data in NT and send it to csv file, excel, or a machine learning algo written in python, for example. This is not new to NT8, but I don't think TS supports this. Don't know about the others.

Vendors are going to be racing against the clock to be first to market with all kinds of goodies.

So expect that some of them will be really hush about potential projects.

Don't expect options ( Though I heard from Ray that "hooks" might be in place.), Don't expect spreads. Everything is fair game.

Would be cool if NT supported iceberg orders.

Does anyone knows if NT8 has the ability to chart spread between instruments out of the box?
