NT uploaded a recording of a webinar they did last week that covered a lot of the new features in NT 8. Very impressive and I can't wait to get it.

Does anyone know if they added per symbol chart settings? My execution monitor has four linked charts for the same symbol, and I want to select a different symbol to trade on these charts, but some of the bar and indicator settings need to be different for each symbol. For example, I need different size renko bars and zigzag values for different futures contracts.

I hope there will be a way to handle this in the new NT version as I have the same problem. I use templates as work a round. First I saved the settings per instrument. Then after selecting an instrument I load the right template which goes with the instrument. It's not ideal, I know.

There is a workaround for indicators and standard bar types, however, it doesn't work for custom bar types. Sample code and more information can be found on my NT thread: Per Instrument Indicator and Data Series Settings - [AUTOLINK]NinjaTrader[/AUTOLINK] Support Forum

so far from watching the latest video about NT8, I am very disappointed. the enhancements and general direction seem to have been made for programmers, not every day users like me.

one can compare NT7 and now 8 to other platforms like Multicharts, SierraCharts, and MarketDelta and see all the features contained in these platforms that blatantly missing in NT.... a huge opportunity missed by NT in my opinion.

what NT has appeared to have done, is take a '65 Chevrolet and placed a 2015 Corvette engine in it. so it can run really fast and has lots of potential power. but if you want it to be comfortable and up to date, you'll have to add all the bells and whistles yourself. i.e. you want air conditioning which is standard equipment in every other car on the road? all the holes and brackets are there, but you'll have to install all the operational components yourself.

NT has been around for over 10 years. this forum alone contains thousands of enhanced indicators, bartypes, and functions. but are any of them incorporated in NT8? according to Ray.. "no new indictors have been added" an amazing omission.

specific examples of egregious omissions... no volume analysis tools yet NT8 stores all the data needed for them... can anyone explain why NT8 would contain all the data yet stop at the point of actually using the data in any functional way?

indicator visuals.... probably the most basic and common is color changes based on slope or above/below zero. is this available to the everyday user? no.. you'll need to program that yourself..... again amazingly egregious omission.

I am a lifetime subscriber.... but so disappointed in the beta reveal I'm already evaluating other platforms that appear to care about the everyday trader, not just the programmers and system resellers.

disappointed beyond belief here

imagining what could have been........

Completely disagree,

1- Tick granularity backtesting
2- Replaying historic data
3- performance improvements
4 - .net library
5- opening more than just strategies and indicators

Can any other platform do this? nope.

Good job Ray, I'm a fan!!!!

Well i guess the truly amazing part of Ninjatrader is opening up a trading platform to .Net. Luckily the vast amount of indicators that us programmers just give away makes this still a great system for the non programmers of the world.

I am not shy about criticizing NT7. And for discretionary futures tradng, I would have to say that it is a heaping pile of garbage. There is just to much competition from many deep pocketed software vendors. Thus, you can get a better software practically for free.

However, based on the NT8 functionality upgrades I've seen. Wey are on a more competitive footing and quite possibly be better off than with those thousand dollar a month systems when all the potential enhancements are considered. I am not saying you have to buy them all. I am saying you will be able to have NT8 according to your personal workflow for less money than institutional software. There is no better time to have own the NT platform. Not even during the previous major upgrade.

As for spreading, let's not go there.

Additionally, the last poster is not only a programmer but a person who works in a professional trading environment with access to much more sophisticated systems.

I can find no better endorsement.

I agree that NT8 is a great improvement for programmers, but I disagree that it is a failure in any way. NT8 is a complete rewrite of the code base to provide a framework that can last the next 15 years. I think they made a wise decision to release the bare-bones version of NT8 before adding too many new features. These things take time. NT said that they would begin the process of converting all the NT7 indicators on their website once NT8 is officially release to the general public. I think this is a good plan and I am thankful that we finally have access to the much awaited programming features. If you are not inclined to program to make NT8 suit your needs, you probably need to wait a year before most of the bugs are ironed out and more features are added. In the mean time, I suggest you post any feature requests to the NT8 general discussion forum now so that they get incorporated as soon as possible.
