This is supposed to go in the File Sharing section, but don't know how to do it, as it's not possible to open a new thread.
Or maybe not enough coffee this morning, something like that...

Anyway, this is another DoubleMAPaint, with:
- the good MAV.cs (thx Peter)
- bars can be painted
- sound alerts, with customizable file name for signals (check this site for generating your .wav).
- arrows for signals

BUT: I've not tested it, as I still have datafeed issues, so you have to test it, and check if you have multiple arrows, and multiple sound signals, if you have calculateonbarclose=false . If there is such problem, I'll have to modified the code again and plot/play sound only when FirstTickOfBar=true.

edit: screenshot added
edit again: type in DoubleMAPaint.cs, sound issue fixed
edit 06/13: Peter's version with no more DoubleMA(14,ZeroLagEMA,1,ADXVMA) bug, price type selectable. So the screenshot not updated, I'll do it later.

Thanks Sam.

BTW I changed my DoubleMA line 72 'PriceTypeSupported' to the value '=true'.

For those who don't know: This gives you the extra choice in parameters with the option to choose the price input (Close, Open, Median, Typical, etc.)
For me it works ... maybe other would like the option for the 'official' version.

From Peter on chat:

---------------------------
With the old MAV .... (used by DMA to select the type of MA in the pulldown) .... when you selected EMA previously ... you got in fact the SMA. If in the old one you selected HMA you got in fact EMA and when selecting in the old one SMA you got in fact the HMA. In the new MAV that Sam used this is corrected so that you get the right MA. So all is good now. Only consider that if you used e.g. EMA/EMA then to get the same you should now select SMA/SMA.

I was not able to get the "original version" of DoubleMA to work with calculate on bar close =false. With the DMA paint I can now do this. Maybe someone else had the same issue.

If you don't have a solution, check out Peter's post for DMAPaint zip that worked for me when I tried it in a staic environment. I need to try it with live data to make sure it continues to perform well. Both 'Calculate on bar close = False' and ADXVMA = 1 seem to be good with this. If so, it needs to be dropped into the Downloads section.

Neal, did you read, at the end of my post:
"edit 06/13: Peter's version with no more DoubleMA(14,ZeroLagEMA,1,ADXVMA) bug, price type selectable. So the screenshot not updated, I'll do it later."

The zip posted here is the good one.

Thanks Neal,
Both the DoubleMA and Paint are both plotting on bar close = False. The issuue I had with the DoubleMA was the indictor would act correctly when set to true but would flat line across the top of the page when set to False.
Both work correctly now when set to False.

Another .zip, for testing with the parameters included in the screenshot.
This version will play the sound once when used with CalculateOnBarClose=false (and condition=true), and the multiple arrows bug may disappear.

sam,

Only glanced, but try placing the drawarrow code above where you have it in this section instead of the lastdirection < direction section.

Code

if(rising)
                {

RisingPlot.Set(bar 1val2);

RisingPlot.Set(barval1);
                    if (
PaintBar)

BarColor barColorUp;

Signal.Set(1);
                }
                else if(
falling)
                {

FallingPlot.Set(bar 1val2);

FallingPlot.Set(barval1);
                    if (
PaintBar)

BarColor barColorDown;

Signal.Set(-1);
                }
                else
                {

NeutralPlot.Set(bar 1val2);

NeutralPlot.Set(barval1);
                    if (
PaintBar)

BarColor barColorNeutral;

Signal.Set(0);
                }
Do something like
#(rising)
if (Signal[1] != 1 && FirstTickOfBar)
DrawArrowUp()

#(falling)
if (Signal[1] != -1 && FirstTickOfBar)
DrawArrowDown

Mike

Sam,

Also that zip file has adxvma.cs with calculateonbarclose = true. Delete that line entirely. That is what is causing the 0 value line drops.

Hum, not so easy:
- removing calculateonbarclose = true in adxvma.cs -> flat line
- restoring calculateonbarclose = true in adxvma.cs -> flat line again
- restarting NT (who knows...), same thing
Anyway, I'll have a look for placing the code in the other section, but it's time for trading now .

Hi,
If someone have problem with Adxvma in DMA paint, first import BigMike's ChannelThis indicator, then use this Double MA Paint, it will work, I did like this and working for me.

Sam,

Add ADXVMA to your chart directly (forget DMA for a minute). If you set to calculate on bar close in chart properties and let a new bar form, does it work? It does here, and my ADXVMA.cs has the CalculateOnBarClose line set to false.

I've tested that too, my (and yours) ADXVMA works fine with CalculateOnBarClose=false, but in a DoubleMA.
I tried to put sound/arrows somewhere else, but still have shadow arrows. Anyway, it's not too bad as it is now, with these limitations.

Then probably what is happening is the statement is evaluating to true more than once, and the draw command is using unique names (ie "Up + CurrentBar") so it is not replacing the previous arrow.

Still, the underlying issue of why it is evaluating true more than once is a bit odd. I'm sorry I've not had a chance to test on my side, maybe I can get to it later today and shed some light based on a new perspective.

Thx Sam!

Guys,

Here are two versions that I worked on yesterday.

You need to open the zip file manually, and copy contents to My Documents\NinjaTrader 6.5\bin\custom\indicators.

Then exit and re-load Ninja, or if you are technical you can Edit any indicator and re-compile.

These two zips fixed the following for me:
1) DoubleMA Paint arrows: No more multiple arrows
2) DoubleMA flatline: No more flatline

If you use ADXVMA setting of 1 it can still cause errors. But I confirmed errors with setting of 2 or above and these changes fixed it for me.

Let me know. Hopefully we can get this to a stable level and update the File Sharing section.

I did all that.
Put the files from the zips in indicators and compiled fine.
But when I uncheck calculate on bar close on 4 range it gives flatline on DoubleMaPaint.
It is ok until I step into live price past the border and it goes flatline.
If I move it back its ok but of course you cant see the current price.
Wonder if I did anything wrong?
Thanks.

Can you confirm what you mean by "uncheck" calculate on bar close? Do you mean it is true or false?

I need to know:
- Which instrument? (ES, ZN?)
- What size chart? (you said 4 range, thx)
- What exact DoubleMA Paint settings did you use (MA length and types)

That way I can test on my side again.

I was trying to set up a chart like sharky's on ZN from the Sam's thread.
What I mean is, the flatline only happens when I turn off calculate on bar close set it to FALSE.
If its on TRUE, it doesn't do it.
It doesn't matter on the settings of type of MA period etc.
Just the bar close makes it do it.
I haven't restarted NT but I did compile all those files now twice so really I shouldn't need to should I?
Thanks

So if you set DoubleMAPaint to:
14 ZeroLagEMA
2 ADXVMA

COBC = false

Then you see the problem? Because I have tested it here on ES and ZN and it works fine.

You need to be sure you removed DoubleMAPaint from your chart after you compiled the new version. Then add it back.

Compiling just forces it to update new .cs code you stuck directly into the directory instead of Importing.

NT should also pick them up on restart, but I prefer to compile to be sure there are no errors.

For sure you need to remove it from you chart completely, then re-add it.

Ok I made sure it was removed from all charts and did it all again.
And it still gives the flat line when I turn off calculate on bar close when I move it away from the right margin.
As I said the only thing I haven't done is restart ninja trader.

Will you please confirm you can duplicate the issue using these settings:

Big Mike View Post
So if you set DoubleMAPaint to:
14 ZeroLagEMA
2 ADXVMA

So I can test on my end. It is important to me to know the exact settings and exact market (ES, ZN). I don't think you've answered the market yet either.

I just tried to export both DoubleMA and DoubleMAPaint and start again and it wont allow me because of MAV.cs(137,54) CS0103 The name 'DynamicSR' does not exist in the current context.

Ive tried on ES and ZN 6E TF and restarted NT.
I shutdown NT manually Deleted DoubleMA DoubleMAPaint and all the other files in the dmafix.zip.
Then re put them back from the zip.
And restarted it.
I then tried it on ES ZN ZB TF YM 6E
And its doing the flatline when I set CalculateOnBarClose = False.

You need to overwrite all the files when you extract from the zip. It is important.

Here is DynamicSR.cs incase I forgot to put it in the zip.

Also, I'm still waiting to hear from you on your exact MA settings so I can test that on my side. If I am not being clear please say so. Just trying to help you, but if you don't give me the exact settings to test with then I can't help -- because everything I've tried on my end works fine.

I think we have to be careful here to prevent confusion. There are two flatline possibilities .. NOT related to each other.

1. If you don't have enough historic data on your chart you will always get a flatline as the indicators still have unstable very low values.
You can see this if you move to the beginning of your data. You will see a couple of black bars sticking down on the left.
Even on a Range 4 chart I load 10 days of historic data.

2. Some users have a problem with certain settings related to the DMA/ADXVMA combination. In that case you will see a red line sticking down on the right side of the chart. (The chart tries to display a new zero value).
The latest version of Mike's DMAPaint works pretty good with me. Only one flatline of this type in two days. Some here suspect this is a NT bug rather than a DMAPaint indicator bug.
In my experience this type of flatline problem only disappears if you restart NT. Just adapting settings or reloading other versions of the indicators did not solve it for me. Also if one range chart starts to flatline my other active range charts also suddenly start flatlining.
IMHO it appears that the problem remains somewhere in NT memory. Anyway, in my case the problem will not disappear until I close and restart NT.

But as there is now a new type moving average ADXVMA indicator in the download section you may want to use that to circumvent DMA/ADXVMA combination problems.

Also remember that only indicators in the download section are (to our expectation) considered stable. The indicators discussed on other places on the forum are still work in progress.
In any case it is advised to make good backups before importing and or testing new indicators.

Ok ill try and be clear here sorry for any confusion.
I had the original files called,

ChannelThis_and_DoubleMA_BigMike_ctrlbrk_05182009.zip

I downloaded the files from this thread called,

dmafix.zip DoubleMAPaint.zip

I then unzipped the files and copied and pasted into NT directory and overwrote the existing files and compiled and restarted etc.
It didnt fix the problem.
I then went and deleted them all, and put them in there again and did the same thing.
Its still the same.
It doesn't matter how much data ive got, ive used differing amounts 3 days to 7-15 days.
It doesn't matter on settings of MA type period etc, ive tried 50 different combo's it all does the same.
It is specifically related to CalculateOnBarClose.
If I set that to False, it gives a flatline and moves everything to the top of the chart.
If I set AutoScale to False, it gives a long line down the chart at the end of the page but doesnt move the chart up.
I have posted a .rar file with this post, with 6 jpg's that show the conditions when the certain settings are present.

No worries, it is just a confusing subject

I'll take it point by point....
Do I understand it correctly that yo already had flatlines with the DoubleMA from ChannelThis_and_DoubleMA_BigMike_ctrlbrk_05182009. zip ?

Can't remember anyone with a problem with that one.

Thanks for the details.

Please set DoubleMAPaint aside for a minute.

Use the regular DoubleMA instead (non-"Paint" version).

Same problem? Since it is the weekend, you'll need to either use Market Replay data, or wait for the markets to re-open.

I will work on this problem some more this weekend and upload a new version.

Everyone,

Here is an updated DoubleMA, DoubleMA Paint, and ChannelThis.

1) This is an NT export. You can therefore naively import it, File -> Utilities -> Import. IT IS CRUCIAL YOU OVERWRITE FILES WHEN PROMPTED.

2) All version numbers are stamped v2.0 to help in troubleshooting.

3) MAV.cs is now obsoleted. Please delete your MAV.cs.

4) DoubleMA_internal.cs replaced MAV.cs. I cleaned up the code some. I also wanted to rename it because MAV has no correlation with DoubleMA. Now, being named DoubleMA_internal, it makes more sense for future updates.

5) ChannelThis has been updated to serialize the colors. It will now store any chart color changes you make, this was broken prior to this release.

Now, the point of this release was to get everyone on the latest version and make it easy to determine that. The version numbers will now show up with the indicator name in the indicator listing, to make this easy.

It is entirely possible you may still get the 0 value flatline issue. I do not get it and have tested a lot of data. The goal is to get everyone up to the same identical release, and confirm that, so we can move forward.

The file is attached, and I've also updated it in the file sharing section and sent notices out to anyone who downloaded it.

Please go to Tools -> Edit NinjaScript.

Open any indicator listed.

Press F5 to compile.

At the bottom of the screen will be listed (in detail) the errors. I need a screen shot of this so I can see what the issue is.

It is most likely something to do with the order in which Ninja is importing the new indicators...

Try this:
1) Tools -> Edit NinjaScript

2) Delete the following (select the indicator, then press the delete button at bottom). ChannelThis, DoubleMA, DoubleMAPaint, MAV. Please do it in that order.

3) Import the new zip file again.

If there are any errors along the way then you can always just open the zip file and manually copy the Indicators directory/contents to your NinjaTrader indicators folder (Documents\NinjaTrader 6.5\bin\custom\indicators). However that shouldn't be necessary.

Here are some long and short wav files, there is no way to auto import with Ninja, you have to manually move to your Program Files\NinjaTrader 6.5\sounds directory.

Mike you have fixed the flatline in this one.
The first zip file DoubleMA_Paint_v2.zip fails to import and NT gives the error message about it having programming errors that need to be resolved.
The other one BigMike_DMA_ChannelThis_package_v2.zip imports fine and now all my MA's are running with CalculateOnBarClose False with no flatline.
Thankyou very much for this.

Glad to hear it, but I think you can resolve the failure to import by following these instructions. I also put this on the download links directly in download section.

You should first delete the old ChannelThis, DoubleMA Paint, DoubleMA, and MAV indicators from your indicator list --- in that order --- if you have them. Tools -> Edit NinjaScript.

Let me know.

The only thing is now I get 1 long white line through the chart when I put DoubleMA with 14 ZerolagEMA and 1 ADXVMA.
You know the neutral white dots Sharky puts on his chart?

Ok so I just re imported JMAPaintbar and the white one is now fixed
And DoubleMA still does no flatline.
So the versions in JMAPaintbar are good for the white dot.

I never was able to get ADXVMA on 1 inside of DoubleMA to work, so I really am not sure how to fix this for you. Sorry.

Just the one from your download section so if you put the ADXVMA from that zip into the DoubleMA one then it might fix that problem.
But then again it could be something else who knows.
Its all fixed now on my end anyway thanks heaps for your help.

Buster,

I checked just now. The difference is that version has CalculateOnBarClose forced to true, where my version has no setting.

When you try your ADXVMA 1 setting, are you using COBC true or false within DoubleMA?

The proper way is to not force the COBC setting inside of the ADXVMA.cs, which is the method mine uses. I will have to explore more, but please tell me if you are using DMA setting of COBC true or false.

Mike I was updating my 2nd PC. Did the advised procedure of ChannelThis, delete, etc. and installed the new package.

After editing my local ADXVMA to pricesupported is true .... I got flatlines with ADXVMA=1 (both with DMA and DMAPaintbar in both COBC true and false) while being not connected.
- put the pricesupported code in ADXVMA back on false and restarted NT -> flatline

Overwriting with JayMAPaintbar solved the problem as mentioned above.

In the following tests I started everytime with a working ADXVMA=1 by overwriting with the ADXVMA in JayPaintbar
- changed ADXVMA code to COBC false -> flatline
- commented the whole COBC line out -> flatline

Now the interesting one....
1. overwriting with the JayPaint ADXVMA -> no flatline
2. opened ADXVMA with the editor and compiled without any changes -> flatline
3. load new ADXVMA from JayPaint -> no flatline

Looks more and more to me that it is an NT bug.
BTW I am on NT .10

Will see toninght what happens while being connected to data.

NT might be caching the COBC variable in #initialize. Instead of commenting it out just force it to false

Code
CalculateOnBarClose = false;

BTW, looks like we might need another 'new' package with COBC forced to false on ADXVMA to fix this. NT advises the indicators to not force a COBC either way, which is what I did... but you guys are still experiencing issues.... so we can just force it back to false.

It may not be clear from my text but I tried editing COBC to =false ... it did not work for me.
NT needed a new ADXVMA to work.

As mentioned:
I started with a good/new ADXVMA from JayPaint and a chart without flatline. Then I did a 'strange' test.
I opened the ADXVMA indicator as if I wanted to edit, but I compiled directly after opening without making any changes (so I did not tough COBC=false). This open/compile only action resulted in a flatline.

If the value would have been cached, then the cached value should have been false.... but still I got the flatline.
That is why it doesn't make sense to me.
What is different after open/compile without any editing?

Thanks WH,

all runs fine at the moment with the JayPaint ADXVMA. Probably it would also run fine with the 'very old' ADXVMA. Didn't test that yet, but I've had it with testing for the moment.

I don't really have a problem at the moment.... with DMAPaint anyway..., , but I wrote the info above down to inform others on what I found.
And confirm a way to solve the ADXVMA issue.

The thing that bugs me is that I can't explain it....

The difference is in ADXVMA.cs.

Open the file, add the line under the Initialize section:
CalculateOnBarClose = false;

Save/Compile. Remove the indicator from your chart. Exit Ninja. Re-open Ninja. Re-add indicator to your chart. (extra steps due to reported bug by Peter).

New version of DoubleMA and DMAPaint.

The ZIP includes:
- an updated DMAPaint and updated DMA (with Mike's fix for the the decimal and yellow issue in the DMV dataseries.)
- DMAPaint setting for PaintBars is set to false by default
- my updated DoubleMA_internal.cs (adds TEMA, ZeroLagTEMA and ZeroLagHATEMA as choice) .

Peter,
Will these updates affect the Sharky DMAstrategy you and others have been working on?

7.4.09
I needed to delete the Sharky DMAstrategy before could delete the DMAinternal cs. The new zip file loaded correctly and I reloaded the Sharky
DMA v7 strategy without a problem.
