Hello Ray,

First, let me say that I am a devoted and satisfied user of NinjaTrader for many years, even though you have ignored my question about “interrupting audio alerts” several times. You guys are busy and this is not a very high priority issue. I understand that. I’m thinking, though, that if Mobile Trading Connections become very popular in the future, the audio alerts may become a very useful way to interact with your charts, which now will be percolating away on a remote server somewhere on the internet and you, Mr. Trader, will be surgically connected to your Mobile through a high-tech pair of Dr. Dre Ear Buds and squinting at a very tiny display. Anyhow, there are more pressing problems and improvements to consider, perhaps.

Second, and this question may be in the category of “That’s none of your darned business,” but how does the NinjaTrader business and its investors expect to get a significantly increased flow of capital from the NinjaTrader version 8 upgrade? Just taking futures.io (formerly BMT) as an example, and I don’t know the stats at all, but for the sake of discussion, there are maybe 30 to 40 thousand members here that are also users of Ninja and of these, maybe say 40% of these are monthly payees and the rest are lifetime licensees. So, at the very best, with the present pricing scheme, you maintain the steady flow of income from the monthly users and get nothing more from the Lifers. My question is, do you plan on rolling out a multi-tiered upgrade of NinjaTrader, for example, where the current Lifers are grandfathered into a “Silver” level that maintains the status quo, while a creating a “Gold” level option with the historical bid/ask capability and a “Platinum” level that adds the Mobile capability (or, some other equally lucrative scenario), each additional level adding an increased level of cost to the user? At this late date in the upgrade process, you must have not only had this discussion, but have made a determination as to whether or not this is feasible or advisable. Not trying to put ideas into your business plan, mind you. Just curious!

Thanks,
HDT

Hi HDT,

In short, as of this post, all users paying or not will have access to NT8. Our growth plans are not focused on finding a way to get a pop of revenue on release of a major version. Our focus has always been to grow revenues by gaining market more and more market share and we are confident that NT8 will continue to do that for us.

Thanks for the reply. But, that option is not available for many, in particular my, applications. I am running third party software and the setting of the priority is not possible. They all show up as "High" on the alert window. Even if I could though, there are only three levels of priority and I can have as many as 6 to 9 charts with audio alerts on 3 different Workspaces.

Besides, it is not clear to me whether or not the priority setting has anything to do with the playing of the audio alert. But only serves to be a filter on the Alert Window. Correct me if I am wrong.

You raise a good point though. If it were possible to set the priory for an arbitrary number of audio messages by assigning a unique numerical value to each message based on the computer clock, for example, this would solve the problem.

This may not answer your needs but the way I dealt around the sound alert confusion in using several charts with sound alerts was to create different sound files for each one of the alerts/instrument I wanted voiced when a signal triggered.

What I listen to is an alert in my voice (optional) saying, "CL, Long, signal 'X',", maybe followed by another saying, "YM, Short, signal 'Z',". And so on for ES and so forth. Simultaneous to the sound alert, an arrow shows up on the pertinent place on the chart. When I hear the name of the instrument I know what chart to bring up.

It is not sophisticated but simplicity works, and that, I understand. And easy to create, too. The recording is done with Windows XP Sound Recorder.

Hope it helps someone.

Thanks Buscador for the reply. I also use very short audio alerts that I create using the "AT&T Natural Voices Text-to-Speech Demo" application found on AT&T Natural Voices® Text-to-Speech Demo . I have two types of trades, Scalp or Swing on as many as 6 to 8 charts distributed over 3 or 4 workspaces. Each chart has as many as 4 different audio alerts (two each for Long and Short). I'll create the alert by typing "Scalp N Q Long" for example, into the AT&T app (note the space between the N and Q to avoid the app trying to make a word out of "NQ"). With this setup, I could have as many as 16 audio alerts firing at various times and the potential for them interrupting each other is high. They occasionally cover each other up! So that some of the alerts are never heard, missing the signals, and making this feature useless or worse.

I'm not sure why there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of concern about resolving this issue. A simple solution may be to set up a buffer where the text version of the alerts are stored and played in sequence with a "simple" text-to-speech app like the one on the AT&T page.

Hi Raymond, first of all thanks for all your help on this forum!!!

My first question is around if Ninja re-connection is going to improve with NT 8? What I mean, if I loose internet connection all other platforms, TOS, IB, MC re-connects with no issues however Ninja 7 I do have to exit and start again. This is causing loosing T&S info.
I am connecting to Zenfire.

NinjaTrader should automatically reconnect, if this is not happening for you please send an email to our support team for further analysis.

My second question is if T&S update will happen in a workspace which is not the "active" one? My understanding charts are updating currently but not T&S.

NT8 T&S behaves differently than NT7, in short T&S will not consume CPU cycles if not visible (same as NT7) but once visible, history will be shown.

There is another webinar with Ray from NinjaTrader on Wednesday, Dec 11th @ 4:30 PM ET.

This webinar will cover the NT8 SuperDOM as well a detailed look at the NT8 NinjaScript changes. It is highly recommended to be part of this webinar if you are an NT programmer.
