Different Bar Types: Advantages and Disadvantages

I can't find any threads on this topic that got off the ground so hopefully this one can be revived. I only really have experience with time based charts so my opinion on my favorite bar type is probably fairly limited. For those of you using Range, Tick or Volume bar types, what do you find to be their advantages/disadvantages?

I'm not familiar with these. Why would someone use these? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Also, since I'm fairly new at this, could anyone tell me what their favorite style is and why they prefer it?
