From what I can see on your chart with the UR settings and price action it looks like those bars could be tided up even more to cut out some of those unsightly pull backs. It may be that this is not so important for your entries/exits, just a thought.

It's very important...do you think the attached is an improvement?
TIA.

P.S. Logik Ultimate Renko from Purelogik Trading looks very interesting, too. Thank you.

Thanks

@2010,

I've done this a while back.

@monpere, please let me know if you don't like your indicators modified and I'll delete this version.

Does the off set have a lot to do with the setting of the bars?

This is something you should be doing from indicator not bar type. You can easily create this indicator using Wizard with following conditions:
Close > Open --> Long
Close < Open --> Short

Hi, I'm new to Renko, and very interested in this thread. I'd appreciate some help with the following:

I have Ninja Trader running off an Interactive Brokers funded account data feed, and I'm interested in Forex. I believe IB data isn't 'true' Forex tick data in that it doesn't show every price tick up and down - it takes a snapshot of price every 1/500th second and builds bars from that. Is that likely to make any practical difference to trading Universal Renko charts, compared to other data feeds? Does anyone have experience of using the IB datafeed with NT and UniRenko?

Also - this thread seems to be at a pretty high technical level, and I have some very basic 'rookie' UniRenko questions, like: what settings would you recommend for my trading style, how does switching over the UniRenko from time or Tick charts affect certain trading methods (like scalping inside ranges), and do you guys tend to have a time or Tick chart up alongside the Renko chart - etc., etc., etc. Would I be better to start a new 'Rookie UniRenko' thread for that, or should I ask those sort of questions here?

Thanks, Max

In this thread, I am posting my Universal Renko bar type implementation. I have been using it exclusively in my trading for a while now, and have had many requests for it. I wanted a more flexible Renko bar that could be customized in a particular way to fit my trading style, so I decided to make a bar type that allows the user to configure it more liberally to better suit their particular needs.

Hello monpere

First, thanks for sharing. This is an incredible asset. I have found T1R4O1 very useful for scalping and T4R8O4 useful for “Trend” monitoring.

Second, there appears to be a bug. When I connect to Zenfire and load the historical data, I am getting a chart that looks like the attached screen shot. This does not happen on every chart, nor does it always happen on the same chart. If I switch to any other bar type without reloading the Historical Data (including other Renko types like Better or RJay’s) the problem goes away. If I switch the session template to Default 24/7, the problem disappears, even with reloading the Historical Data. I have had the problem with the following session templates (the only others I have tried): “CME US Index Futures ETH,” CME FX Futures ETH,” and “NYMEX Metals/Energy ETH.”

The problems seems to start at the beginning of a new day (the first bar after 00:00:00) and everything could look fine up to that point, including prior transitions to new days. Also, it could then revert back to normal on a new day transition (historical, have not looked into this in real time). At first I thought that it was bad data from the exchange. But the fact that all other bar types work fine precludes this, perhaps. Sometimes, “Reloading All Historical Data” gets rid of the problem, lending a bit of credence to the bad data possibility. I am perplexed and have switched over all of my session templates to Default 24/7. This however, causes other, less fatal, problems with one of my indicators that depends on having the sessions well-defined.

I’m surprised that this hasn’t happened to anyone else. Not sure why it would be unique to my setup. I have systematically removed all of the indicators and strategies from the chart and, with just the barebones data, the problem persists.

Also, I just checked, and the session template “CME US Index Futures RTH” does not have the problem. I am loading 10 days of NQ (03-13), 6E (03-13) and CL (04-13).

I hope I haven't created a “Wild Goose Chase” for you.

Thanks for your work,
HighDesertTrader

I've had problems with the db\cache that is in the documents folder. I deleted everything in cache and that took care of my problem. However, my problem was different than your's but it still might be worth a try.
