Hi guys,

As part of my research for the upcoming " Where to start as a trader (Part II: Trading Platforms)" webinar, I want to solicit input from members about the platforms they use.

If you could give me some information I would appreciate it.

1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader?
2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader?
3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without?
4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?
5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this?
6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader?
7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?
8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced?
9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader?

Even if someone before you has said something similar to how you feel, please reply anyway. I am gauging response by popularity so need to hear from multiple people even with similar feelings.

If you have any other thoughts to add please do so. Let's try to keep the thread on-topic, focusing on why you use the platform and leave all other discussion to other more appropriate threads.

Thank you,
Mike

1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader?
About a year and a half.
2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader?
Charttrader, ATM, market replay, simmode. Best all around combination of graphics features and speed, imo
3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without?
The ATM strategies. DOM, trade text & markers on chart. Overlay of indicators. Adjustable colors and opaqueness. Selectable precedence of graphical elements.
4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?
Also live trading.
5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this?
Discretionary
6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader?
Not easy at first. Had to attend NT training webinars. futures.io (formerly BMT) indicator webinar helped greatly with
indicator creation. Had experience with C/C++/C# on Visual Studio which helped.

7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?
Excellent.
8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced?
Not enough. Needs more popular platform built-in features such as market/volume profile, volume footprint, easier to use interface of ATM such as easier to quickly select different ATM strategy and customizable graphical elements or more official documentation on how to do so. More watchlist and scriptable fields features.
9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader?
Excellent. Seems to very popular. Plethora of shared indicators by generous users. Great support and community at futures.io (formerly BMT) and the NT support forum and other sites.

1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader?

4 years

2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader?

The ATM

3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without?

ATM

4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?

Live trading

5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this?

Both. It helps with the ATM for discretionary and the algo side helps with a decent framework for writing studies / strategies.

6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader?

Very easy

7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?

very good

8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced?

Hard to compare since trading platforms have different capabilities, but for what it does that I use, yes it is.

9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader?

the company forum is very good.

Math. A gateway drug to reality.

1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader?
4 years total -2 years seriously

2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader?
The charts, drawing features & chart trader, the ability to switch to easily switch between sim and live, ATM

3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without?
The charts, drawing features & chart trader, ATM

4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?
Both- Trade live with what I know how to trade and trade sim for entries I am experimenting with

5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this?
Both-
discretionary- The ability to trade within the chart and easily zoom in and out and mark the chart up at will. Its a very non thinking process. This allows me to focus on my trading which is key.

algorithmic- NT makes it simple to create strategies with c#. The back testing feature is nice to quickly see how the strategy does. The NT support forum members and members on futures.io (formerly BMT) are extrememly helpful when learning how to code. The NT help section supplies a adequate amount of code examples to get the beginner strategy builder started.

6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader?
Easy to learn the software and the trade entries. Hard to learn coding.

7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?
7.5 out of 10. They get a 10 for responsiveness. They quickly respond to requests and problems. They get a 5 for acknowledging there is a problem. Its always a user error. If you have custom code then its a coding error which they do not support. After about 10 emails of shooting down there responses and providing further evidence to support the claim they finally admit there may be a problem and will be added to list and will be fixed in some future version..

8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced?
Single broker has the right price point but the multi broker is to high. 1299 would be a fairer price.

9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader?
Excellent. The support community gets a 10++. Every question I have ever posted about how to do something has been answered.

1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader?

About 3 years

2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader?

- Ability to create, optimize/backtest and run strategies
- Chart trading
- ATM for discretionary trading (pick one according to price action & tweak as required; saves removing pesky stop orders manually when targets hit)
- .Net compatible

3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without?

- Ability to create, optimize, backtest and run strategies
- Chart trading

4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?

- Live only (i.e., connected to the broker for both cash and paper trading on the broker side)

5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this?

- Both
- as above, chart trading (DOM nice but rarely use it) and the easy-to-use systems for creating, optimizing, backtesting and running strategies
- initially the built-in strategy development tool helped me understand NT's C# trading extensions

6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader?

- a bit of a learning curve initially because it was my first store-bought retail trading platform. Already having programming experience helped with strategy development.

7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?

- Highly responsive and patient, not so helpful in my particular case possibly because I used support early on only, and only when at the end of my rope trying to deal with what seemed at the time to be issues that were totally inexplicable to both them & me, that turned out to be almost entirely due to my operating environment.

8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced?

Yes.

9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader?

Great. Comparing NT specific forums and general interest trading forums IMO futures.io (formerly BMT) is what makes it great.
