algorithmic

Scripts...Easy. Understanding the overall platform and best practices takes time.

1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader?
- 2 yrs

2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader?
- NinjaScript (C#) enables virtually anything you want to do algorithmically.

3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without?
- For me, the essentials are to do with algorithmic trading and possible manual intervention (manual closing of positions, for example) if something goes wrong.
- Powerful backtesting.

4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?
- Live and simulation.

5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this?
- Algorithmic. NinjaScript allows everything I've wanted to do, so far.

6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader?
- Quite a learning curve, but there are good training videos, etc.

7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?
- Excellent.

8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced?
- Yes.

9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader?
- Good. A few experienced users contribute to the Support Forum.

To put this in context, the only other platform I've used fo algorithmic trading is MetaTrader 4.

Cheers
Tony

i have been using it for a few years. i used to use it to make trades now i just use it as charting software and place trades in IB trader workstation. really setting up trader workstation was a bitch but now that i have it configured the way i like it it is sweet. i had problems with ninjatrader not executing and then over executing trades. too many layer using an API IMHO. i'm no programmer but have been able to code some indicators.

I do the same. I use NT for charting only. I make trades in Rithmic Trader DOM now.
I had problems with stuck orders and frozen NT platform before.
Also RT holds SL&TP orders on their server, not in your computer platform like NT.

This is inaccurate. NinjaTrader always submits orders to the exchange. With the exception of our simulated stop loss order ( Simulated Stop Orders ), orders are always sent to the exchange and NOT held on your computer. The OCO (one cancels other) functionality can be simulated locally if the brokerage technology provider does not support it. Check out the following link for more information.

Yes, you're right. I meant OCO instead of SL&TP. My fault.

I trade remotely from EU thus for me it's very important to have OCO on the brokers server instead of my computer.

OCO is held on broker server for some of our partners such as CQG, Interactive Brokers, TD Ameritrade, Continuum.

1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader?
On and off for 3 years, serious daily usage about 4 months.
2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader?
Simple ATM, easy to setup and change charts. Drawing tools are easy to use.
3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without?
ATM, replay
4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?
Both.
5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this?
All discretionary. Easy to use chart trader
6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader?
Basics are easy but if its the first client based trading application its good to attend NT's webminars. It was a while before I leaned about saving defaults at the indicator level. Small things like that add up.
7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give an 8.5. They are very responsive, polite and knowledgeable. Sometimes you get inaccurate answers from their support. I am not sure if it was not knowing but I would have preferred to hear that's beyond the supported area of the product.
8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced?
Yes
9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader?
The community support is great. Both on futures.io (formerly BMT) and NT site. There are also many indicators freely available.

1) How long have you been using NinjaTrader?

Since March 2009

2) What are your favorite features of NinjaTrader?

Auto trading, chart trader, back testing, C#/.NET based programming model, extensible platform

3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in NinjaTrader that you could not do without?

Chart trading and Super DOM.

4) Do you use NinjaTrader in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?

Live trades

5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does NinjaTrader help you with this?

Both. I run a few automated strategies but I have a few setups I execute manually, but I'm always looking to automate all of my setups.

6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use NinjaTrader?

I don't think it was hard, but it took 6-12 months to really feel comfortable and trade without making execution errors due to a misunderstanding of how Ninjatrader works as well as how real-time markets/exchanges work.

7) How do you rate NinjaTrader's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?

I just use the forums, it's pretty responsive. The free training webinars/videos were helpful too.

8) Do you believe NinjaTrader is competitively priced?

I guess, it depends on who you think their competition is. Tradestation comes to mind, but their pricing model is different. Same for Metatrader. Then, eSignal, Metastock, Multicharts, etc, but I don't know their pricing. I was originally drawn to it because I could leverage my C#/.NET skills for auto-trading and strategy testing and it seemed nobody else did that so I was sold.

9) How do you rate the community support that exists for NinjaTrader?
