Welcome to futures io.

Welcome, Guest!

This forum was established to help traders (especially futures traders) by openly sharing indicators, strategies, methods, trading journals and discussing the psychology of trading.

We are fundamentally different than most other trading forums:
  • We work extremely hard to keep things positive on our forums.
  • We do not tolerate rude behavior, trolling, or vendor advertising in posts.
  • We firmly believe in openness and encourage sharing. The holy grail is within you, it is not something tangible you can download.
  • We expect our members to participate and become a part of the community. Help yourself by helping others.

You'll need to register in order to view the content of the threads and start contributing to our community. It's free and simple, and we will never resell your private information.

For what platform?

Need help?
1) Stop changing things. No new indicators, charts, or methods. Be consistent with what is in front of you first.
2) Start a journal and post to it daily with the trades you made to show your strengths and weaknesses.
3) Set goals for yourself to reach daily. Make them about how you trade, not how much money you make.
4) Accept responsibility for your actions. Stop looking elsewhere to explain away poor performance.
5) Where to start as a trader? Watch this webinar and read this thread for hundreds of questions and answers.

GomRecorder base:
https://futures.io/elite-circle/6802-gomrecorder-2-a.html

Includes GomCD (Cumulative Delta).

Volume Ladder:

There are also vendor alternatives.

Answer
This post has been selected as an answer to the original posters question Answer

For the continuous double auction usually bid and ask traded volume is used as a proxy for buying an selling.

Bid and asked traded volume

There are two excellent packages that you can use to analyze buying and selling

(a) GOM Recorder and GomDeltaPackage

https://futures.io/elite-circle/6802-gomrecorder-2-a.html

(b) XavPackV3

https://futures.io/download/vip_elite_circle/1205-download.html

The XavPackV3 will only run with real-time data, the GOM Recorder allows you to record and save real-time data to build a separate data base.

Uptick and downtick volume

Another possibility of approximating buying and selling, would be to divide the volume into uptick and downtick volume. This should lead to similar results as the analysis of bid and ask traded volume with the above tools. The advantage would be that this indicator could be used with historical tick data.

@Big Mike was faster to respond, but I am not willing to modify my post ....

Thx, I didn't mention XavPack because I've not looked at it and don't know what it does
