There is a multitude of paint bar study indicators on this forum. One of the more popular is the _Zeller_Sharkin pictured below with a setting of 2 which some submit is good at predicting a turn in direction.
The other two are modifications of indicators which are available on futures.io (formerly BMT ), but have no paint bar parameter.
So, let's take a vote. Of the three, which one would you want to use based on these pictures, recognizing you don't have the access to "test" the other two.

nice work zoethecus.
your paint bar 3 even beats my paint bar, which is more designed for ES 4 range charts. also like # 2, because there're no gray bars. for me trend is like price. it either goes up or down, no neutral.

Just had an epiphany about paint bar studies. I don't need them. I guess that's because I've never found any that give me enough confidence to trust them in a trading decision. I always have a doubt lingering in the back of my mind.
Having said that, I reserve the right to change my mind, but for now, I'm using white candles with black outlines. I hope the withdrawal won't be too painful to make me relapse to the "paint" for a fix.

we may have to do paint bar shootout some day.
paint bar coding is perfect for a novice to start out
BarColor = Color.Black; <== paint it black
BarColor = Color.Red; <=== paint it red

I would be interested in taking a look at the DonMA paintbar if you are willing to share. Otherwise I may be tempted to post a request to create one because it sounds like a good idea. I don't use paintbars either but like Mike says, its always fun playing with a new toy for a few days. I have played around with ATR and Swing stuff a lot so the DonMA paintbar sounds cool. Although a simple ma cross or price cross doesn't work that consistently from what I have seen so I would like to see how you implemented the paintbar.

Cory,
I think someone around here made an ma crossover paintbar somewhere. Might just need to do an edit replace with the donma.

It helps verify end of trend. I don't use the bars for entry.

Yes, I've heard that from others, but I can't get it clear from what I see. For example, the pic in the OP has many neutral bars. Some do show a change of trend but others just look like a brief pause before the trend continues.
But if it works for you, that's all that matters.
