This is NOT a broker thread. There is an existing broker thread, use it please:

Any further post about NT brokerage in this thread will be deleted. Please keep it on-topic, to the "release date for NT8".

@NinjaTrader

Can you clarify what the policy will be when NT8 is released regarding simultaneous use of NT7 and NT8. I will want to continue to use NT7 for live trading while at the same time begin what will be for me probably a lengthy task of converting my custom scripts to NT8.

Will it be possible to use NT7 and NT8 at the same time without licensing issues?

Thanks

On the same computer, no problem. If on separate computers, the best option for simultaneous use is to use a free simulation only license key. Feature wise, it's all the same just live trading is disabled. You can request this license by sending email to support.

NinjaTrader 8 beta will be released in waves (we took this approach with NT7 as well) with availability to the initial group no later than the end of April but likely sooner than that. I will provide more information as we draw nearer to that date.

Ray

Thanks Ray,

I sure hope you stick to your end of April deadline. I really need a platform that supports millisecond ticks, and I am getting to the point where I can't wait much longer before I either make my own custom solution or switch to another platform. I greatly appreciate this firm timeline, but I really have been annoyed with hearing about NT 8 for 2 years! Perhaps next time you guys should make more smaller releases with things that are REALLY important to people (like sub-second resolutions!)

Can you elaborate on the process of joining the beta program? Will we get an email? Notice in NT on startup? Link on your homepage?

I am not 100% sure how the beta will roll out specifically but will provide clarity once I have it.

Hi @ NinjaTrader

I'm a senior soft dev in the daytime just as many many guys over here (some with >30yrs of experience).
There is a lot of "smells" around this release even if it's a major one - do you have a public release plan and strategy (I'm not talking about a random post on the forum) or is it someone asking some 3-4 devs about the dates every now and then? To be honest I can't imagine my estimate releases/milestones etc (whatever it is alpha, beta etc) to slip for more than couple of weeks and then keep pushing it with false promises. Be more transparent with your clients and pick one:
1) you don't know - plain and simple
2) admit that yeah you are really delayed (whatever it's being understaffed, agile or whatever you use didn't work out) and and go to point 1
3) we do have running alpha and done all pen-testing, perf testing etc in our pipeline and now we are "fine tuning" (if so what are you fine tuning?) and then go to point 2
4) yes we have a release date to be this and that
5) something else - well can your architect's answer then - or let him write a post, I bet a lot of people over here will understand him

Simple - it's not magic - I always quote my friend "it's simple, there is electricity or there isn't, 1 or 0"*
In essence "assignment statements, if statements and loops" (sequence, selection and iteration) - nice Uncle Bob reference.

Please stop going around the houses with: "maybe I may not as I would if I could not likely but unfortunately we are happy to no necessarily announce that" - which sounds like a really bad sales pitch/answer not bringing anything to the table just leaving with more questions.

Disclaimer:
I like the software and the support is great, but answers like that just hurt my soft dev soul.

*meant to simplify - I have electrotechnology background as well and know it's not as that simple

Thank you
Chris

Why don't you just use NT7? It works just fine and has been available for a long time. You think NT8 is the answer to your prayers? That's funny. As soon as NT8 comes out, you (and a whole host of others) will be on pins and needles waiting for NT9. It's not the software, it's the trader. Would be fine with me if they just stuck with NT7 - it does everything a trading platform needs to do for a trader to have a realistic chance at being profitable.

Hi @timefreedom,

you're perfectly right and I cannot agree more but, if I may, to me it's just frustration from promises being broken, not being transparent with customers and general treatment like I'm a doofus* etc. (things I listed in my previous post). I do wish however some enhancements being implemented when it comes to ninja script, drawing mechanism (and driver), API, optimisation, market scanner, handling historical data better, volume (profile etc) etc - some of those cannot be fixed in NT7 hence they probably rewrote the thing.

All of those are more moans to be honest, I really like NT7 and fully agree they will not make anybody profitable because they have a shiny new toy.

*I only let the market treat me this way

All the best
Chris

i do use ninja 7 i paid 1000.00 for it and i do not have a problem with turning a profit.. i do not like bad custmer service and folks that do not tell the truth.. if you do that is ok too... that does not mean everyone sould be quite. when they have the same quilty of trade station or C.Q.G. i will shut up...
