Be patient, and as you grow, I shall give you more and more.

I really like the ability to see historic bid ask volumes and the ability to move/pan around on the chart

creating indi's is even easier than nt7

it works great for me

I prefer to be conservative, this is why I prefer NT7.

Hi George

What do you mean by 'conservative'?

It probably means, he does not want to become a bug finder for Ninja and not lose his time with a product which is not yet up to snuff.

P.S. i have played less than three hours with the new version and found bugs and on one occasion NT8 could not update my account information correctly. Also, it has found and displayed all my prior data connections created in NT7 but no longer valid. Who has the time to find solutions to problems which are outside of our scope, seriously? I'll stick to my NT7 setup for at least another six months or more.

I've been using NT for 1 month and it's a pain! Full of bugs and random crashes, I'm not putting my $ on it! and I'm talking about NT7...

Interesting. I am truly surprised how many people have nothing but negative comments about version 8. I have been using version 8 for a month and have no significant issues, version 7 for years. A few small things that are no more than minor frustrations. I trade everyday professionally to earn my living and have done so for over 15 years now. I think it lacks understanding of software if you expect flawless execution. Every application developed since we began using computers has had flaws. Regardless of whether it is Microsoft, Google, IBM or anyone else doing the development. Flaws are inherent to computer systems. I started on a Bloomberg terminal and have used Rueters and many other systems so I have a extensive pool of experience from which to form an opinion.

For an application to evolve it requires the support and usage of a user community. If you are unable to support an organization then do not expect the organization to support you.

For $1000 NinjaTrader is an exceptional piece of software. They do an outstanding job creating and maintaining a fantastic tool that is extensible to trade the markets.

If you are using the free version then you have no standing being critical of Ninja. You are just trying to get something for nothing and when you don't get what you want you rail against the company.

I'm using NT7 and I think it's fine. I understand from reading some very old posts on this forum that, in its early days, 7 also took a long time to shake down. I believe that 6 and 6.5 had similar histories. I could be wrong about some of these, but the point is simply that it has taken time to bring the platform up to speed in the past also.

My quick take on 8 so far -- based, really, just on what people have been writing about on FIO -- is that it seems to work fine if you are not trying to do anything unusual, but many people have reported issues with indicators, whether home-grown or purchased, particularly if they use some of the new functionality (bid/ask volume, etc.), which is understandable.

This has made me reluctant to make the switch also. I am very familiar with the amount of time and effort it takes to get a large, complex application up to speed (I used to write them), so I am going slow right now. Every so often I stick my toe in the water, but so far I've not wanted to plunge in. Perhaps I'll give it a shot after the new year.

It's great if someone is having no problems, and it obviously will have any issues worked out at some point. Anyone having issues can probably be happy with 7 for a while longer. I would say it depends on what you need and what your own experience has been, given what you are doing with it. We do need to understand that it's still a work in progress, and will be for some time longer.

Bob.

Edit: On re-reading, it looks like @trendisyourfriend has other, more severe issues as well. I would say this also argues for the "work in progress" view. If it's working well for you, great. If not, more time may be the answer.
