I have asked this question to Ninja support but im sure they will just copy paste some irrelevant page of their guide in order to answer my question. So hopefully one of the people who actually use ninja could help?
I have used ninja trader for nearly 3 months now and its works pretty well. But there is a huge flaw with the IB software which i have to use as it has the best commissions. Could you please advise me what to do as i am close to looking for other software solutions if it cant be done on ninja.
I start my strategies and every day i log in twice a day. I turn the clock back to trick IB not to log me out. This is a hassle but something i can live with. Problem seems to be it causes TWS to freeze every now and again, granted weeks can be run this method.
However maybe you have the solution, if i am logged out with strategies running that have entered. Say i have 8 stocks 4 have entered, 4 have not... what should i do after being logged out to keep the 4 strategies which are in the market running and executing properly whilst also allowing the 4 which havent entered to also enter if a scenario so arrises. Can i just change settings to execute immediately rather than waiting for flat? Only wondering if i am not in a stock which now crosses a line which sends an exit signal, will this be ignored because u cannot exit something you are not in? or will it short if the exit signal was sell to exit? Is there any other way to keep strategies going after a log out? Is this what most users do?
I greatly appreciate all the support. Please can you not copy a link to the guide as i have read it many times."
I have found this on the NinjaTrader forum, but just copied it here, not tested it:
"Actually there is a "hack" that seems to be working well (still testing it, but I have been going for 5 days no restart...)
If you look in your JTS dir, there are some folders that seem to have random names. Open the one that was updated last. Then change the autoLogoffTime to 99999999999999:15,AM in the tws.xml configuration file and make sure that you don't store your settings on the server (checkbox at the bottom of the logon prompt). Make sure you edit this file while IB is not running, or else IB will override the settings when it shuts down.
Once you have saved the file you can relaunch TWS and it will load this file. This will allow it to stay on for several days. Then you can just restart it once a week or something to make sure it's updated.
Hope this helps."
It is clear that the problem is the TWS auto-logoff, which occurs every 24 hours, and which should be avoided.
Thanks for those 2 replies. I have tried both. The first one with changing the number to 0.999999 did not work at all and the second program which i know does work i have tried endlessly to install but does not work for me. maybe someone on this forum has managed to install it and had any tips for me?
