Dear genius coders, we are trying to see which futures.io (formerly BMT) hosted indicators ( here) are NT7 compatible, and which are not.
If some of you are able to test some of them, and then give us your feedback on it, it will benefit to everybody .

Then we could modified the indicator's description, with this useful information.

Thanks !!!

For starters, I know the CMI v7.5 does not work in NT 7. I have not had time to see if the author has a newer version. I've marked it as not-compatible in download section.

Let me also report the futures.io (formerly BMT) Envelope Fib Bands won't import as-is, it is a conflict in VWAP. I will fix it in next version.

I marked them as "no".

Last, let me say that futures.io (formerly BMT) PaintBar Close imports fine, but I listed it as 'not tested' at the moment because NT7 beta 5 has a bug regarding CandleStickBorder colors, which this indicator uses.

I will have to wait until beta 6, or later, when they fix the bug, to make sure no code changes are needed for NT7 use.

I'm checking some indicators compatibility, but not very deeply:
- import/compilation OK
- plot what it's supposed to be plotted
And that's it, no backtests with strategies using these indicators, for example, so, be careful .

I've noticed that SBSRanko by roonius is not NT7 compatible - although it is a chart type not an indicator (and it is in Misc section) I believe it should have compatibility indication:

There is a newer version, v8, that works in NT7. It's on the NT site but hasn't been uploaded here yet, please do.

I merged your thread into the existing NT7 compatibility thread.

The two indicators are easy to port to NT7, see .cs below.
I didn't try with the two bar type, maybe more tricky...

Hmm, I tried the CMI V80, doesn't compile for me. But the modifications needed are small, see CMIPivotsWeeklyV80_nt7.cs.

It crashed for me too. I've seen this with other indicators & have asked Ninja Trader to teach me how to trouble shoot this problem, probably something in the Log & Trace files has the answer. So I sent them those along with this file. I had the same problem with Mike's Envelope. I ended deleting all the previous occurances of the bundled indicators and cut and pasted the new ones. That didn't work this time, hence the email to Ninja Trader.

I have learned the hard way. NT 7, like a lot of Windows apps, requires a clean install.

I recommend:
  • Run a Backup (Files>Utilities>Backup - although it does not always help, can cause problems later)
  • Save the backup
  • Uninstall all previous NT versions including 6.5 if it is on the same computer ( Revo is good at cleaning up stray files from .exe's)
  • Remove all folders used by NT 7 & 6.5
  • Clean the disk using the Windows Utility to remove unwanted files
  • Defragment the Hard Drive - Defraggler is free and way faster than the Windows version
  • Run CHKDSK - to make sure the hard drive is in good shape - can take a long, long time & is not necessary every time.
  • Download NT 7 (& 6.5 if you want to run both on the same system) and install
  • Run Restore (Files>Utilities>Restore) -It worked for 7b12.

Back your files up anytime you make an important change. I use a Network Drive to back up my computers.

Yes, it is time consuming, but It is worth all the effort.

Striving to get as much stuff working on Ninja Trader 7 as possiblle will give this forum's members more impact on what Ninja Trader Produces as the offical release of NT 7.01

Currently, collecting a list of Indicators that are incompatable when moved from 6.5 top 7. Some of it code break stuff and easy. If I see enough of them I'll develop a feel for the easy vs. hard fixes.

Really important suff like the 1000 time down-loaded Murray Math I took to NT support and had a fix in minutes. For other, like adapting Big Mike's futures.io (formerly BMT)EnvelopExpander to 7, I asked one of the really good coders on the Forum and he gave me an answer that allow me to have a compiled version in less than a minute.

I will do my best. Proirities are Highest # of downloads, what the other Modererators feel is important and what ever Big Mike wants done. Not necessarly in that order.

If we keep the majority of Beta stuff in this thread & other development threads and working suff in the download section (please put all indicators, workspaces, etc. in the download section, and remember your key words, please) and just link it to the thread it will be easier for everyone to find stuff.

Thanks,
Andy

The point of this post is to show that even I can do this. So you can to.

The biggest changes between NT 6.5 & 7 is that the drawing elements and arrray are different. I'll leave the array stuff to real coders like Gomi, Zondor, RJay, Mike, Sharky, and the rest of you who are code artists.

But minor Code Breaks are easy to fix.

Take VolumeStopRefreshv4 that I changed to work with NT7

First import the indicator, then try to compile. You will get lots of error mostly to do with Draw statements.

One you get the error screen like shown below. Hit F1, then go to the search tab in the and type in the name of the element that has changed. In this case DrawText.

look at the new requirements:

DrawText(CurrentBar.ToString()+"l2" , true, "l", 0 , savePos2, 1, colorUD, textFont1, StringAlignment.Center, Color.Empty, Color.Empty, 1);

//DrawText(string tag, . . . . . . bool autoScale, string text, int barsAgo, double y, int yPixelOffset, Color textColor, Font font, StringAlignment alignment, Color outlineColor, Color areaColor, int areaOpacity)

I paste what I find below the line, comment it out and match up each field until I have spotted the problem. In this case true needs to be added, because there is now a auto scale field that is a bool type.

Do this for all the errors like DrawRay, DrawTriangle, etc. and eventually the code will compile.

Anyone see this type of error? When someone submits a non-working Indicator I will post the problem if it is something I have not seen before, in advance of my delving into the code blindly.

There are a few easy fixes that can be made:

1. In all parameters, change "Category" to "GridCategory"

2. Some function signatures changed, so you typically need to add a parameter with a good default. You mentioned the autoscale one for Draw methods.

3. Rename Dispose() to OnTermination() - not required but a good idea

4. Change declarations of DataSeries to use new parameter:

ds = new DataSeries(this) ==> ds = new DataSeries(this, MaximumBarsLookBack.TwoHundredFiftySix)

If you need more lookback than 256 bars, then use "MaximumBarsLookBack.Infinite"

Update: The default for a DataSeries is to use 256 bars, so change #4 is not needed. You only need the change if you require more than 256 bars.

I have found so far that changing Cateogry to GridCategory, and adding the lookback to the initialization of the data series, do not seem to be necessary for my indicators to work in NT7.

It IS essential to stick the missing autoscale and y pixel offset parameters into the Draw methods.

Yes, I don't really understand the GridCategory one, but the Ninja guys said to just do it when I have pinged them, but would not explain why. I suspect you will eventually have to make this change for something to work.

The DataSeries one is also not required, but you should make the change to help conserve memory and run faster.

So the default is Infinite if not specified?

No, my bad. Looking at the doc, the default is 256 bars, so you do not need to make that change. I will go back and edit.

I changed to GridCategory, the other things you mentioned were not there. Still get this weird unknown in the parameter passing field. I'm not really up to figuring it out right now. I asked Bertrad @ NT to look at it. If he is not busy he can be very helpful.

I looked at Double MA and found it to be a large collection of MAs. I tried but it is way to complicated and time consuming to do myself.

However if there are some of you who want guidance on putting this together I would be glad to consult.

What needs to be done:
  • Check to see if all the component MA work by themselves.
  • If not make the coding changes
  • Make the changes to DoubleMA_internal to get in shape for NT7
I am posting DoubleMA_NT that I have changed to what I believe is a NT7 ready indicator, but It is only the front-end not the working guts of the indicator.

What I have attached here will not run, with out the above changes.

Before you spend a lot of time on that DoubleMA code, I would advise against it. The code is incredibly convoluted and there are far, far simpler ways of accomplishing it. I'm not the original author, but I've learned a lot in the last year with NinjaScript and I would rather see a new version created than the old one patched up to work in NT7.

If there is interest in this, I suggest creating a new thread specifically for that purpose, and if no one else steps up I'll make an effort to write a new version.

I'll take care of it. In fact, I'll use it as the inspiration of my next Video. I'll show how to make it from scratch including all the enum's and how to handle multi-color plots, two hot subjects, and I'll do it in a straightforward manner instead of how it was originally written.

So, let's see if I can get it done sometime this weekend. I'll create a new thread for it at that point.

If what I posted earlier is not enough to keep NT7 from crashing.

Here is one more step:

I can understand a beta product making changes to the db. But this "line" from support is scary in some regards, because a defacto answer for any problem with NT 6.5 was always to "repair the db", or just delete it if that didn't work. They don't say delete, they say rename, but same thing. It's off-line and unavailable either way, all old data in db no longer available.

Granted they made significant improvements in NT7 by dumping Access and moving to SQL, and they also moved all historical data out of the db and into flat files, so deleting the db in NT7 is not the life-altering event it was in NT 6.5.

Anyone see this type of error?

I couldn't tell if you ever got a response to this question, but I can tell you the only time I see that is when an exception is thrown from Initialize() or another startup type of method.

I had this problem once with roonius' TSSuperTrend ver.2.1 The problem was fixed in ver.2.2 by roonius. Unfortunately I don't have the 2.1 version to compare it to the corrected one.

That should be Post #48, not #49.

I pasted the C# code for the Cycle Identifier and the RSI Input series into empty indicator shells and they worked immediately in NT7.

Druid, should it look like this?

An installer created in NT7 is also attached below.

See my previous post.

https://futures.io/25525-post28.html

That error is due to NT adding a boul for auto scaling or something simple like. If you follow the above post. then finding the extra variable is fast and should work right away.

The CMIPivots Indicators only work on NT 6.5., for NT 7 I have coded anaPivots. There are some small differences that I want to explain.

The idea behind CMIPivots

NT 6.5. pivots only show correct values, if you select the right session via chart properties. There are two major shortcomings:

(1) If you want to display day session pivots, you have to cut off all night session data from the chart.
(2) If you want to toggle between instruments, you have to change chart settings.

CMI Pivots basically adresses these problems and adds some further options such a second formula for floor pivots, Camarilla, Woodies and Fibonacci pivots and the anchored volume weighted average price (VWAP) of yesterday's session.

What has changed for anaPivots?

First of all NinjaTrader 7 allows to set up sessions via the session manager. You can then select the appopriate session for each instrument under instrument settings. Once this is done, you can easily toggle between instruments by using a chart template that relies on the session template <instrument settings>. This solves problem (2) explained above.

For anaPivots you need therefore to select the appropriate session template under instrument settings, and you can no longer set sessions via the indicator. This is also true for the pivots indicator of NT 7. So what are the advantages of anaPivots over the NT 7 pivots indicator?

(1) If you want to dispaly day session pivots with the NT pivots indicator, you need to cut off all night session data by selecting a RTH session template. With anaPivots you may select an ETH template and enter the session length (count backwards from session end of ETH session) and display day session pivots without cutting off the night session data.

(2) In case you use weekly and monthly pivots, the indicator can be used to calculate these by ignoring night session highs and lows.

(3) There is a new option that allows you - unlike all other pivots indicators that I know - to take into account holidays. Here comes an example: Monday, Feb 15 was a public holiday. Globex was open on this day, but all trades of Monday were for trade date Tuesday, Feb 16. In this case you will

(a) want to calculate Tuesday's pivots from Friday's instead of Monday's high, low and close
(b) want to calculate Wednesday's pivots from the entire prior session, which includes both Monday and Tuesday

Actually Monday and Tuesday was just a single combined session, and if you want correct pivots you need to take this into account (also cmp. CME Group website and www.mypivots.com to further explore this subject)

With anaPivots, just enter Feb 15 as a public holiday with trade date next day, and the indicator will take care of this!

(4) The pivots indicator of NT has a bug, because GetSessionDate() is flawed. This bug will produce false pivots depending on your PC clock and the session times of the instrument. In particular you will get false pivots for all US index futures, if you are located GMT +1 or further East. anaPivots does not use GetSessionDate(), but relies on FirstBarOfSession logic, which currently works.

(5) Further options include VWAP of prior session, midpivots, wide and narrow floor pivots, Camarilla pivots, Woodies pivots and Fíbonacci pivots.

Some remarks on NT 7.0.0.10 bugs

There are at least two NT 7.0.0.10 bugs that also affect pivots indicators:

NT 7 still confuses session break and day break, so it will not update daily data correctly after the session break. Pivots in DailyBars mode might therefore be false immediately after the close. Solution here: During the hours after the close (beginning night session) use pivots in CalcFromIntradayBar mode.

The second problem I have encountered relates to MergeBackAdjusted. For rollover days NinjaTrader applies false offsets to the new contract for many of the instruments with ETH sessions. This produces false pivots on the day after rollover days and may also affect weekly and monthly pivots, if a false weekly or monthly high is created. Solution here: Do not use MergeBackAdjusted around rollover date.

Below I have attached the latest version for both indicators. Please let me know, if you have any problems or remarks.

Update

I have learned the really hard way. NT 7, like a lot of Windows apps, requires a clean install. In this case a super clean one.

I recommend:
  • Run a Backup (Files>Utilities>Backup) Save the backup
  • Uninstall all previous NT versions including 6.5 if it is on the same computer This works: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
  • Run Restore (Files>Utilities>Restore) -It worked for 7b14.
Back your files up anytime you make an important change. I use a Network Drive to back up my computers.

Yes, it is time consuming, but It is worth all the effort. Although NT needs to add a few hours of support time to help those trading outside of the US.

Thanks !!!

Works perfect on NT7 version 17... way to go!

Hi to all,
Frama K was tested with success on NT7 b17. Do not update any files already present on your machine.

Works in NT7 if you replace

bins[i] += e.Volume; bins[i] -= e.Volume;
with
bins[i] += (int)e.Volume; bins[i] -= (int)e.Volume;

Search - Big Mike's Day Trading Forum

Does not download into NT7.

So I have a question...If you would like this indicator, you download it into 6_5, modify it to run in 7, where do you post the update? I am not interested in stealing other's people work, but if I make it work and would like to share, how do I do that and not violate the trust people had when they downloaded their work in the first place? I am not interested in the glory of the indicator, but I am interested in sharing...

hi gordo,
great idea to convert them !

if you got it working, upload it in the download-setion under NinjaTrader 7 - its a seperate area.

also name the original author of the indicator + thank him at the end of your the description-text.
possible is also a link to the original NT6,5 version of the indicator.

that should be ok then!

all action that are done with respect are welcome !
Thanks !

I started reviewing this code but came across this forum and the following post:

These posts indicate that there is/was an effort to make this indicator compatible with NT7. I cannot find the thread noted for this effort. Can someone please direct me to the right location?

I have quickly tested MACD BB Lines V2. Import to NinjaTrader 7 was possible, but there are some modifications required. This is probably due to the implementation of ChartControl in NinjaTrader 7, which is different from NinjaTrader 6.5. The indicator uses a custom plot.

When I tested MACDBBLines, it worked with equidistant bar spacing set to true (default for single series chart), but the dots did not plot properly, when equidistant bar spacing was set to false (default for multiseries chart).

If anybody has the competence to modify the custom plot, I would appreciate.

Just checked the trigger lines indicator. It works with NT7. Could not find it here, so downloaded it from the NinjaTrader forum.

futures.io (formerly BMT) MAGIC is working so far in 7.18.
Not sure what the neutral color is for since it only seems to display up or down, but never neutral.

I was planning to review this code and take a crack at making it work with NT7. However, based on BigMike's post, this is not a good idea.

With that said, I cannot find a thread pertaining to this effort as referenced in BigMike's post. Can someone please give me the link to this thread if it exists?

Thanks

Big Mike View Post
Before you spend a lot of time on that DoubleMA code, I would advise against it. The code is incredibly convoluted and there are far, far simpler ways of accomplishing it. I'm not the original author, but I've learned a lot in the last year with NinjaScript and I would rather see a new version created than the old one patched up to work in NT7.

If there is interest in this, I suggest creating a new thread specifically for that purpose, and if no one else steps up I'll make an effort to write a new version.

Mike

I would suggest starting from scratch, don't try to port the old version. You can look here for EasyLanguage example:

With NT, it is more powerful with regards to being able to use enums so you can have a drop-down list of named moving averages, instead of remembering a number. I'm sure you can find several examples of using enums on the forum.

I have coded the DoubleMA from scratch for NT7. I have tested it for the most part and compared values with the prior 6.5 version. I believe it is working correctly but more eyes are always better so take a look at it and let me know.

I maintained the DataSeries Signal and DMV. See the indicator's code or parameter dropdown for implemented MAs.

I modified DoubleMAPaintHolyGrail V1 in NT 6.5 to DoubleMAPaintHolyGrail V2 in NT 7. I put a link in V2 but do not have access to V1 to add a link there.

I, too had trouble getting MACDBBlinesV2 to work properly in NT7. Changing the default from "TwoHundredFifty" for Maximum Bars Lookback period to "Infinite" seems to have solved the problem, for me, in NT7. Give it a try.

After all, it's what you learn AFTER you know it all, that counts!

I have since published a version for NT7 in the download section. Just scrapped the whole custom plot which is unnecessary. You can find it here:

Richard has tuned it a bit, so today I replaced it with an even faster version.

Tested the SwingTemp Indicator for NT 6.5.

It is not compatible NT 7.0. Reason is a code breaking change in the DrawText method. I think that the modification can be done quickly.

Edit: Indicator modified for NT7 attached.

Sometimes it is the draw elements. If it is not, it is something else.

So the procedure is always the same:

Step 1: Try to import the indicator. If the import fails, check the trace file. Often the trace file tells you what to do. If the trace file does not help, then copy old indicator into directory Own Documents -> NinjaTrader 7 -> bin -> Custom -> Indicator. Start NT 7 and edit the indicator. Check for code breaking changes and try to compile. Now it is the compiler messages that will help you.

Using this approach, you can usually convert any NT 6.5 indicator to NT 7.0.

The only problems I have encountered so far are custom plots. ChartControl is not properly documented, so it takes a long time to try to figure out what might have changed. Usually I am giving up at this stage, or I prefer using a different custom plot or coding a new one.

For the MACDBBLines I have scrapped the entire custom plot, because it was unnecessary.

Step 2: The indicator needs to be tested. Even if it works on NT 7.0, it is not sure that it will produce the correct results and work under all circumstances. Again the problem here are custom plots. With the multi-series charting of NT 7.0 a non-equidistant bar spacing has been introduced, and many custom plots cannot cope with that.

Yes the absence of documentation on ChartControl is one of the biggest pains going.
Don't mind it not being supported but even just a list of methods, properties, etc would be nice.
Ditto trying to get hold of BarIndex nos via Mouse Clicks- NT seem to have made this positively difficult to discover- and yet it's the one feature that made me move over from TradeStation.
Anyway that is flogging the old so moving on....

OnStartUp is a definite improvement on initialize - I found my Toggle buttons work but work incorrectly in 6.5 due to the lack of the OnStartUp method.

In NT7 this indicator does not produce the ZERO line colours as predicted. i.e. the crossover of whether the MACD line is above or below the average line and the overall trend is up or down.

Is anyone else having an NT7 issue with NoGapRangeBars not updating consistently? I loaded the NT7 version last Thursday. Friday's session seemed to work OK, but neither Sunday's nor today's session price bars are updating. I loaded a basic price chart today with no indicators to verify and it only showed prices through Friday's close.

Better Renko and minute bars are fine. If there isn't a known issue, is there anything else I can look at to determine what's going on? thx

You should probably post that in the NoGapRangeBar thread to get the attention of RJay.
