Hi Guys. I think this indicator deserves it's award and would like to express my sincere thanks to Dorschden for this indicator. I'd also like to share some research which maybe of interest to some people to show other ways of using this indicator.

I've analyzed the data in detail for all of the instruments I trade and if you know how to interpret the data it can provide an edge. For example the attached spreadsheet shows an analysis of all of the swings of CL since the beginning of 2010. This is based on a 20 Better Reno Chart using a swing size of 7. Relevant details as follows:

1. The count shows the number of swings for each HH to HL and HH to LL etc. For example there have been 239 swings from HL to HH and 104 from HH to LL.

2 The mean is the mean swing in ticks. For example the mean for a HL to HH is 221 ticks.

3. The median is the one to use as most of the distributions are asymmetric so the median is more useful. The median is only 199 from a HL to HH compared to the mean of 221 ticks. This is because extreme swings can skew the distribution and mean whereas the median ignores these outliers.

4. The % is important as it shows the % probability of swings that occur. For example going from a HL to a HH has occurred 63% of the time which is in the favor of the trader.

5. The percentile chart shows the number of ticks at each percentile. So for example the HL to HH 50th percentile which is the median the figure is 199 ticks. So when I'm trading a 20 Better renko chart on oil I know that out of 239 swings half have been over 199 ticks and half below. So I know when the swing has progressed to 285 ticks I'm at the 80th percentile know that there have been only 20% of occurrences above this. Obviously you want to be out of the trade at this point.

6. The count table shows the number of swing at each percentile.

7 The bars show the average number of bars per swing. For example I know that going from a HL to a HH is about 12 bars. If I'm at 12 bars and the price has hardly moved I'm out.

Based on this research I have been able to utilize a framework that gives me some statistically significant parameters to trade within. The obvious drawback is the data only goes back to 2010. I have analyzed ES back to 2004 and found that although there was a variation in the results from 2004 - current compared to 2010 to current I didn't feel they were statistically significant.

Cheers
DJ

I guess DJ exported the various swing information to the Output Window (via Print commands)? How would one do to export specifically the swingpercentage information to the Ouput window? Does anyone know?

Thanks in advance!

swingProperties = new SwingProperties(swingType, swingSize, dtbStrength,
swingLengthType, swingDurationType, showSwingPrice, showSwingLabel,
showSwingPercent, swingTimeType, swingVolumeType, visualizationType,
useBreakouts, ignoreInsideBars, useAutoScale,
zigZagColorUp, zigZagColorDn, zigZagStyle, zigZagWidth, textColorHigherHigh,
textColorLowerHigh, textColorDoubleTop, textColorHigherLow,
textColorLowerLow, textColorDoubleBottom, textFont, textOffsetLength,
textOffsetPercent, textOffsetPrice, textOffsetLabel, textOffsetTime,
textOffsetVolume, useCloseValues);

This is the only part of the code I found with showSwingPercent in it.

PAS with GomCD showing wrong

Hello,

I wanted to know if it was possible to change how the PAS indicator displays the swing CD. Right now it displays the swing CD at the top of a swing down instead of at the bottom and vice versa for swing up. Its very confusing to read this because I also use the absolute value which actually prints at the swing lows on a swing low and vice versa. Please let me know if there's a way to change it so that the Swing CD shows at the end of the swing and not the beginning.

SiSwingsHighsLows indicator by Dorschden requested

Hi,

I was recommended by Big Mike to post in this thread to hopefully get someones attention - hopefully Dorschden's attention.

I have heard that Dorschden have created the SwingsHighsLows indicator that is being used in the Shark Indicator's Bloodhound software.
To be clear the Boodhound SwingsHighsLows indicator it is NOT the same indicator as the PAS indicator

I have purchased Shark Indicators Bloodhound software and have built a strategy there that uses the SiSwingsHighsLows indicator - a strategy that I want to rebuild in Ninja Trader's Strategy Analyzer in order for me to be able to optimize on a number of indicator parameters that is not possible to optimize on in Shark Indicator's Bloodhound software.
The problem though with Bloodhound is that this SiSwingHighsLows indicator has not been made available in the Ninja Trader Strategy Analyzer.
I would really like to import this SwingsHighsLows indicator into Ninja Trader in order to use the indicator with the above purpose in mind.

Maybe Big Mike or someone else has got Dorschden's emailaddress to provide to me so I can reach out to Dorschden directly?

Thanks//

how to determine current Swing

Hi,
does anybody know what function is for get current swing status (HH,LL, 0 , HL, LH) I search throw all pages in these thread, but without any success...

.PriceSwingRelation doesn't work anymore
.CurRelation also doesn't work
.swingCurrent.NewSwing gieves me only "0" result

the only think that seems to work is .dnFlip[0] and .upFlip[0] but still I'm not sure if it's giving correct results.

This thread is good, but I think that many people here are missing some "Strategy" thread about this great indicator.

I will be very happy if somebody will replay for ma question - how to determine current Swing?
Basically I want to go Short if Price will fall under last HigherLow (in UpTrend) and vice versa for Long...

@petr882. Dazed and confused by the assumption that this system is easy to understand and code against. Would be extrememly helpfulful if someone would create some standard indi's to work with.

THANK YOU!!!

I use the price action swing study on every chart. I was wondering if any one had thought about Price action swing for NT 8 yet ? I also think if someone were to add a Volume Profile Per Swing as well as an active Volume Profile for the current swing that would be a great addition to the Price action swing pro study as it would offer a good deal more accuracy in trade management for the swing you would currently be trading . i.e. moving the stop up just behind the Volume Point of control or the Vwap both would be great. Just a thought, Thanks to all the coders who make this site stand out from the rest and thank you big mike have a great day.

Price Action Swing Indicator

Any chance you will be able to program this for Ninjatrader 8? This has been great on 7. Thanks for sharing.
