Does anyone use the chart scaling indicator for ninjatrader? I went to the forum and downloaded it (name was chartscale), then when I applied it to my chart nothing changed. I still have to manually adjust my chart. When I go to my indicator parameters, my only options to change are Lookback and Tick Range.

Do I have the wrong indicator?

Thank you for your help.

Mark

It is not clear what you mean. Perhaps a screen shot would help.

Sorry if my previous message was unclear. What I'm referring to is on NinjaTrader, when you are trading intraday, and you have to continually adjust the price axis of your chart when the price action moves far enough to leave your screen. I saw a post in one of the forums describing an indicator that would automatically adjust the price axis to keep all the price action with your screen, which would eliminate the need for manual adjustments.

Does this make more sense?

You have your chart in fixed range scale. You need to have it in automatic scale. In the top corner of the chart, you should see an "F", click on this to get the chart into an automatic mode.

Hey msedlak40 -- I do use this indicator -- please see my comments about it at the following thread (post #12):

Also, you might want to try PMing the nexusfi.com (formerly BMT) member called photog53, since he created this indicator.

msdelak40,

The indicator works pretty much as described above. It is only a partial workaround to the larger issue of overall chart scaling capabilities in NinjaTrader. I have started working on a more complete version that will address more of the issues you mention.....but life-in-general this summer has gotten in the way of indicator work. ChartScale (in it's current state) was a quick-and-dirty method to prevent candles from becoming "too unscaled and large" when price narrows. I don't use many charts in my live trading, but one of the few is a smaller time frame chart, and as a matter of personal preference I want to be able to glance at it and visually see the same general price volatility change that shows on other time frame charts.

I have had multiple requests for modifications to this indicator...some of which I may not be able to do easily without a bit of assistance from Ninja Support. As I get time, I will look at rewriting the code to use 'Plot" override, and thus allow more flexibility in the scaling.

In the meantime, I hope this indicator at least partially makes your trading day easier.

Photog53,

Thank you for your reply. NinjaTrader does have a lot of issues to overcome. I've made numerous requests over the years to have some of these things fixed. I'm hoping that the new release will address this chart scaling issue.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.

Mark

Just released my version that works much better than previous one. Much easier to use as all scaling calculations are automatic. Requires just one TickRange parameter.
