BT OPENING RANGE INDICATOR - without vertical lines at session changes

I use the BT Opening Range Indicator which is great.

See screenshot.
TechSmith | Screencast.com, online video sharing, 2010-08-26_0906

Is there a way to get the vertical lines not to plot between the end of one session and the beginning of the other? If I could get rid of the vertical lines, that would make my chart much cleaner.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Todd

Hi Todd,

To get rid of the vertical lines, you would need to reset the data series values somewhere before switching to the next opening range.

If you have data prior to the opening range you could try to add the following code at the end of OnBarUpdate(). Not tested.

Code

if (Bars.FirstBarOfSession)
{
   RangeTop.Reset();
   RangeBottom.Reset();
}
Below is the indicator I use to display the opening range.

Fat Tails,

I downloaded the anaOpeningRange Indicator but it's totally different than the BTOpeningRange Indicator. I've attached the opening range indicator below.

The good thing about the BTOpeningRange indicator is the flexiblity it gives to set the opening range start and stop time. I don't see that flexibility with the AnaOpening Range indicator, or am I just missing something.

If you get a chance, could you modify the attached indicator to include the fix that gets rid of the the vertical lines?

Thanks,

Todd

I have imported this indicator to NT7, it does not plot anything, but throws lots of exceptions on the trace file.
The serialization of start and end time is not done properly. I think you should ask the author to repair it.

The anaOpeningRange indicator has the advantage that you can set the opening range start and stop time for each instrument individually. Once this is done, you can toggle between instruments, and for each instrument the appropriate start and end time will be selected.

Opening Time: Enter the session length. Some examples:

ES with CME Index Futures ETH -> session end = 3:15 PM CT, session length of 6:45 will get you the opening at 8:30 AM CT (which is equivalent to 9:30 AM ET).

ES with cash session template: You would choose a session length of 6:30 to get the same opening time, because the cash session ends 15 minutes prior to the futures session.

Opening Period: Just enter the lenght of the opening period in hours and minutes.

Fat Tails,

If I wanted to see CL from 9am to 9:30am, how would I do that? CL opens at 6pm but I like to see the 1st 30 minute range from 9am to 9:30am.

In your indicator, it doesn't give the ability to manually enter a start and stop time, correct?

Todd

Of course you can. It depends on your session template.

(1) With Nymex Energy RTH the session end time is 14:30 ET. If you want to start the opening range at 9:00 AM, you will enter a session length of 5 hours and 30 minutes under Session Length CL and you will set the opening period to 0:30 minutes.

(2) With Nymex Metals/Energy ETH the session end time would be 17:15 ET, so you will enter a session length of 8 hours and 15 minutes under Session Length CL and you will set the opening range to 0:30 minutes.

The screenshot below shows the second example. Opening Range is red, European Range is gray, Pivot Range is blue.

Session template?

Fat tails,
Thank you for this great indicator.
You mentioned " enter a session length of 5 hours and 30 minutes under Session Length CL "
Is that in the indicator settings tab or under Tools/Session Manager?
Can you show an example?
