The Muslims want to build a mosque in a cemetery. We're not supposed to say
anything.

If, once it is built, they would want to bring in radical clerics to praise the 9-11
mass murders, I'm sure we're not supposed to say anything about this either.

Where's the memorial to the Waffen-SS or the Viet Cong guerrillas?

Those that lost loved ones on that horrible day are required to suck it up,
and shut up too.

What else would you expect from our first anti-American president?

Do we get a Pol-Pot memorial also?

(Not sure what you mean here, so I can't risk a reply.)

This is what I found to be the text of the speech:

At Ramadan Iftar dinner, Obama supports new mosque on private property near Ground Zero | Top of the Ticket | Los Angeles Times

This is an excerpt below. As a typical politician Obama wants it both ways:

Recently, attention has been focused on the construction of mosques in certain communities – particularly in New York. Now, we must all recognize and respect the sensitivities surrounding the development of lower Manhattan. The 9/11 attacks were a deeply traumatic event for our country. The pain and suffering experienced by those who lost loved ones is unimaginable. So I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground.

But let me be clear: as a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances.

Apparently unimaginable pain and suffering isn't quite enough reason to build this thing 20 miles away.
"There are 1,209 mosques in the United States" according to:

Islam in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For some reason Obama is positive that the next mosque has to be at this specific location.

Excerpt:

And let us always remember who we are fighting against, and what we are fighting for. Our enemies respect no freedom of religion. Al Qaeda’s cause is not Islam – it is a gross distortion of Islam.

Ironically Obama, who isn't a Muslim, is sure he knows what is true Islam and what is false Islam.

9-11 was an amazingly painful event.

While Politicians are looking to find a why to heal (the motivation of a politician is always cloudy), the pain of such events means that years and years must pass before the wounds are strong enough to be even touched.

While the radical & extremely violent do not represent all members of a group, for a long time they are seen as the face of the entire organization. Until the majority shuns the fringe they themselves will not be welcome by those who have had pain inflicted.

Bottom Line: 9-11 must be seen as a crime, like the Killing Fields of Pol Pot, by a super-majority of the Muslim world. This must be expressed openly, and there needs to be work to ostracize these radicals. Until this transpires it is way, way too soon for many Americans to break the association between the radical and reasonable elements of Muslim society.

Never one afraid to stick his neck out,

Andy

Andy (thanks for replying)

Before I forget, there are many Americans that are here today that have not experienced the 9-11 attacks.
I don't know the exact number, but it increases daily. Those are the young people out there that were, let's
say 9 years old or younger at the time of the attacks. Too young perhaps to actually FEEL them inside, like I
and many others did.

I think one of the problems Americans have is the disbelief that 10's of millions of people on this
Earth view Osama bin Laden favorably. President Obama and many others often say that radical Islam
is a small minority of total Islam.
(I went to Pew Research but couldn't find what I wanted. As I remember it, the spokesman for Pew
said on the PBS News Hour about a year ago that 80% of Indonesians have a favorable view of
Osama bin Laden. If this is true we're talking about millions just there.)

I'm sure I've called the 9-11 attacks a crime myself. I really should stop that. They were an act of war.
This war goes on with no end in sight either. This is NOT an endless war. It will have an end. Either
the Muslim nutcases will win or they will lose.

These are the words of Winston Churchill:

Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without
victory, there is no survival.

Politicians often are politically correct. Lawyers often state the laws.

Obama had the perfect opportunity to speak on this mosque, but he got it wrong. Probably because
not much seems to affect him emotionally (except maybe his own falling poll numbers).

Obama could have said that legally this mosque could be built, but that it should not be built. Those in
New York City still have open wounds because of the 9-11 attacks. Healing can occur over time...blah blah blah

Don't panic ... yet

Yes, there are those including several varieties of home grown fundamentalists who would use the freedoms afforded in a democracy to overthrow it. But just maybe the so-called "conservative" rabble rousers, who themselves oppose the separation of THEIR church and the state, are setting up a straw man in this particular case:

Matt Sledge: Just How Far Is the "Ground Zero Mosque" From Ground Zero?

"In addition, the building planned for 45 Park Place is a cultural center with a prayer room -- not a single-purpose house of worship for Muslims, which is probably what we should reserve the word "mosque" for. As Haberman also explains, "That it may even be called a mosque is debatable. It is designed as a multi-use complex with a space set aside for prayer -- no minarets, no muezzin calls to prayer blaring onto Park Place."
The 92nd Street Y, on which the Cordoba House is explicitly modeled, has a whole host of Jewish events take place inside of it, but no one calls it a synagogue. There's no good reason why Cordoba House should be misleadingly called a "mosque." I've been guilty of using this word too, in conversation and in writing, but it's inaccurate. Muslims already read the Quran and pray at 45 Park Place, but that does not and will not turn it into a "mosque.".."

As traders it's our job to avoid being "suckered". Even outside of market hours.

Btw on 9-11 I was at Cooper Square and went outside in time to see the second tower collapse with my own eyes. Like MOST New Yorkers, I personally think that you would have to be a very naive and gullible believer in far fetched conspiracy theories to be able to swallow the Official Story (or should I say the "legend") of this appalling incident.

Show of hands: Who here would like to be in Obama's shoes right now?! He said what the law says, but says he won't comment on whether it's wise to build it there or not. Why is it within the law? Because we believe in freedom of religious expression. It's the reason the pilgrims first came here. So if he says it's legal, but it "isn't wise" for them to express their freedom of religion, and he can get criticism not just from Muslims, but potentially from anyone who would say, "Who's he to say that I shouldn't, that it wouldn't be "wise", for me to exercise my constitutionally guaranteed rights?!
Or, we're seeing the effect now of him not even saying that they should, but merely that they're allowed to.

No wonder the best people don't want to go into politics...
