Ron Paul To Have Special Announcement On The Jay Leno Show - 3rd Party Run?!
...on that!!!! The RNC was a complete sham and joke... and IMO really hurt the Repugs pretty bad...to the point that they may as well have handed the election to Obama... Time till tell!! Biting my nails as it were to hear the news on this!!!! - Have a good weekend!!!!!
He cannot run third party in this election. MOST states have sore loser laws which require a candidate to declare BEFORE the convention of the 2 major parties. If RP wanted to run 3rd party, he would have had to declare it and gather the requisite signatures required and all the paperwork to get on the ballot for each of the 50 states (which takes a huge amount of organization and effort).
Contrary to popular belief, the STATES not the people, elect the President. The popular vote doesn't matter in the "winner takes all" system. In theory, a candidate could win by 50 votes (winning by a vote in each state) and the electoral results would look like a total landslide.
"A dumb man never learns. A smart man learns from his own failure and success. But a wise man learns from the failure and success of others."
He would have to meet an individual state's requirements to be on the ballot in that state . Most states require either a set number of signatures on a petition or a percentage of eligible voters or a percentage of the votes cast in the previous election. He would have to do that for every state in which he wanted his name on the ballot. If he met the requirements he would have to pay the filing fees.
If he hasn't already done this, it would be virtually impossible to get his name on the ballot in most if not all states.
Then there's the cost .... Ron Paul said the last time he ran for president as an independent, he spent 75% of his donations just getting on the ballots.
Not all states allow write in votes in Federal elections ....
I'm just a simple man trading a simple plan.
