Is it possible to track AND TRADE 2 symbols with the same indicator/strategy? For example, I would like to track and trade both the ES and MES simultaneously. My main reason is that as I put on more MES contracts, I eventually want to replace a block of 10 MES with 1 ES. Your thoughts...
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
NT can operate different Contracts with the same Indicator/Strategy on the same time, so it should be possible from the technical side. But I would like to ask you “why?”, because I don’t understand the sense behind it...? MES is the smaller brother of ES with a lower value for each point, but the chart and his movements should be the same as in ES. So it makes no sense for me to trade them together, in certain circumstances if you want to split your TakeProfit in different steps on the run and reduce your loss risk.
I’m actually working on an indicator, which has to operate on different contracts and timeframes at the same time and submits Entry- and Exit commands directly to strategy algorithms.
I have a similar question about Mulitcharts. Is it possible to create a strategy that is based on ES but executes orders on MES? ES has more reliable signals due to liquidity, but I would like to test a strategy with the lower risk of MES.
If I hear you correctly, you are asking - Can your strat make decisions based on ES data and fire off orders on MES? I believe that would be yes. That sounds like a simple SYMBOL MAPPING issue.
Yes that's what I was wondering. Thanks for the the reply. I will look into symbol mapping. Has anyone actually tried this with ES/MES or some other contract?
Yes, I’ve a similar approach. At this moment I’m developing a strategy based on ES data for entry/exit, but order execution will be done in MES during test period. The MES is a great option for testing strategy behavior under real market conditions and for getting confidence with it, because risk of only a few dollars doesn’t touch your mind and the fun factor is high, when it works and you earn a few dollars :-) Feel free to contact me if you have any questions
With Multicharts you can only trade 1 instrument on a chart, but you can display as much as you want on the same chart. So I think the aswer is "you can't". But you can keep 2 charts
side by side and put the SAME strategy on both. One chart with ES and the other one with MES. Then inside the strategy you put a condition that is reading what SYMBOL you're using and then perform traded accordingly.
I mean if YOURCONDITION and SYMBOL = MES then buy 10 contract...... else if YOURCONDITION and SYMBOL = ES then buy 0 contract. ( then it should buy 1 ES on the ES chart and 10 MES on the MES chart..
You can read what is the instrument applied to the chart by code....
