Does anyone use the MultiCharts full version? What data feed do you use? Did you have any problems getting it working?

I can't get the full EasyLanguage version to work, but the ".NET special edition" (from Amp Futures) DOES work. Go figure. MultiCharts full version can connect, but it won't get any historical data, for example, symbol ESM0 (the E-mini S&P500 active futures contract) will only get data for the current day for 5pm (17:00 Central Time) and later.

I'm using Rithmic data. I also tried CQG data.

I've been trying to get data working for over 2 weeks now, and I've spent about $60 in data & exchange fees just trying to get it working.

thoughtful,

I would suggest contacting your broker/data provider to make sure that the credentials will work with other Multicharts versions and not just the .net special edition.
If they confirm that it should work the Multicharts support chat is very helpful and they can set things up for you via a remote connection.

Regards,

ABCTG

In Quote Manager, go to Tools -- Data Sources -- Rithmic. Click Settings and under Connectivity select RAPI+. Re-start Multicharts and you should get historical data.

Thank you very much for your helpful suggestions!

ABCTG, yes my broker already tried diagnosing everything, and my credentials are working.

Yes, the "trading interface" had to be set to "RAPI+". So that was a problem, thank you very much!
So now minute data DOES work (an improvement from no data at all), but tick data still does NOT.

I'm currently waiting for a reply email from MulitCharts about the tick data still not working. I'll update this thread when I get more info.

(BTW, I can't help but wonder why data is so problematic ... BBS's and the internet have been transferring data for decades now, but it seems data vendors can't send simple date/time/price data nowadays? Doesn't sound like 'rocket science' to me, but sigh whatever LOL.)

OP here... I finally have an update as to what happened:

Recap -- I'm using MultiCharts FULL version and Rithmic data. It loads historical MINUTE data, but won't load historical TICK data -- well it sort of does but it takes ~20 minutes to load a couple of days of tick data. I'm not sure if it actually always succeeds -- I think sometimes it just dies and the chart's status [at top left corner] says "no data".

A MultiCharts support person remote connected to my computer. They couldn't figure out why it wasn't working, so they saved the logs for them to analyze at their office(s).
While connected, they installed Rithmic's own software, "R|Trader Pro", and tried that -- it downloaded historical tick data extremely fast.
BTW, there's nothing wrong with my computer or Windows 7 -- no network, no modem firewall, software firewall turned off, .NET versions 3.5 & 4.7 installed and seem to be working fine -- I did a window's "repair" action on both .NET versions just to make sure.

Within a few business days they said:
They said the ticks are arriving too slow to the software.
They said they're trying to reproduce the issue on their end. [I never was told if they were actually able to reproduce the issue on their end or not.]

8 business days later they said:
They said there's been alot of "user requests" lately so that's why it took so long to finish working on this issue.
They said Rithmic's servers are just slow to respond.
They said they recommend to download historical data outside of market hours so that the load on Rithmic's servers is not that big, so there's a "chance" that may help.
They said they've had alot of other users complain about this too.

IMO I don't believe this is a server load issue, unless Rithmic's data server is a single Pentium 100Mhz circa 1990 running in a janitor's closet somewhere in Asia LOL . But I'm pretty sure Rithmic has super duper servers (multiple locations around USA too). It could be Rithmic's fault like they said, but why wouldn't they complain to Rithmic about this since OBVIOUSLY it doesn't HAVE to be that slow?

So, needless to say, the Rithmic tick data is unusable (but minute data is okay). I wish they'd tell people what to expect on their website. (I spent 4+ weeks trying to get this working , and my broker spent many hours too.)

I tried CQG data and it does work, so that's good.
Obviously, I haven't tried any other data vendors, but others are available too, such as DTN iQ.

So, bottom line, if I do end up using MultiCharts I'll probably use CQG data.

I've been using CQG with Multicharts for a while now and it's been reliable so far.

No issues with CQG here. Never tried Rhithmic, never needed to. I'm using AMP mc.net (free) version as well. Just wish I could find out how to scale out of trades without MC automatically discarding my bracket orders. Usually AMP support is great but they've dropped the ball last two times I've inquired about this in the past week.

Couple updates:
Multicharts did update it's Beta finally that allows fast Tick data download (without R trader pro), but the update is not out yet, they sent me a link to their google drive from where I downloaded and installed unreleased version of Multicharts )
Rithmic will cutoff your historical data - if you download more than 20GB of historic Data. 1 month of EMINI tick is about 6GB.
Hope it is helpful.

Bonus: in case you did not know - you can use R Trader simultaneously on TWO softwares (e.g. Bookmap and Multicharts) as long as you connect with API, not directly by credentials of logging in the software itself (e.g. multicharts)

CQG Data – [AHR]Wasted two month on this subject Windows Time Zone – I recommend to see the attach pdf
– make sure before installing Multicharts you go through such process – perhaps will affect other data feed providers

*** Very odd behavior includes frozen price bar, non synchronized price bar of charts with DOM and the inability to use time-charts.

*** easy to ignore the window time zone was set Central America not correctly as expected US/Canada Central matching CME.
