I played a lot with Multicharts and I do like the platform. Many good features and good performance.
Their open PM approach gave them a lot of good feedback and the layer of lifetime users contribute consciously towards a better quality product.
That's a strategy many others missed to capitalize on.

However, there is always those odd problems / issues that are critical enough to make you NOT using it with real funds. And obviously, on developer's back end is not reproducible.
However, there is a borderline where, if the PM team chooses to tag not-a-bug on issues where clear pictures and videos show there IS a problem - then this is consciously choosing to ignore reported issues against the benefit of the user-base.

A better approach would be to acknowledge it and make some effort to reproduce it / work diligently with the author for a resolution.

Some of the issues there are a bit too critical to ignore and would be good people to acknowledge before using it for live trading:

A few thoughts:

Windows PCs have a lot of variance in configuration, and so I do believe they offer "live support", where a customer can attempt to demonstrate the reproduction of a problem over a real-time screencast-type connection during their business hours, if you are willing to participate in it. I do see the MC team often suggesting this - especially in cases where they cannot immediately reproduce certain issues. For certain problems, this can of course give even better feedback about the issue than a screenshot.

I use MC and I've had very positive results interacting with the support team. If you are still interested in using MC in live trading, then one other potentially helpful tidbit I'd add here is that I've steered away from language which could be misinterpreted as confrontational or accusatorial in my dealings with them - and I think it has helped their team to see technical issues more clearly.

In my opinion, the developers of Multicharts are quite thoughtful about the robustness of their product - and often will add features to the next release based purely on support feedback.

As far as I can surmise, a large base of customers are users of MC without any issues in live trading.

I use Multicharts for automated trading 24/5 during RTH. It is working for me well but it took some time to get comfortable and sort out certain issues. There are workarounds for most problems and support has been excellent in my experience. I don't think it is fair to write that the issues are so severe that live trading should be avoided. That is not the case. It does however need a considerable amount of time to really learn how it works. That includes sorting out issues with data feeds and brokers.....there are a lot of moving parts.

regards,

Alex
