David,

take a look at the symbol mapping feature of Multicharts to accomplish what you have in mind:

Hello, I was just looking at the page you suggested and now I understand how to use one datafeed on the chart buy operate with another broker.

Referring to this:

Now I have webank as datafeed and broker and I was thinking if it is possible to do a trick on the mapping: can I set FDAX inchart symbol section and then set the MINI DAX in the broker symbol field??

By this way it should refer to the FDAX data for the chart but to the minidax for the orders??.. Just curious :-)

Thanks ,

Regards

David,

the broker symbol would the one you want to trade on and I would suggest to test everything in the simulated environment to ensure that the orders and stops are properly placed.

Besides that you can of course use the FDAX as secondary data stream for your strategy and compute the logic on this data, but issue the data on the mini FDAX, which would be data 1 in this setup.

Hello @ABCTG,

in the past months, after had created my strategies mainly for the DAX, I spent some time to convert some of them for the MINIDAX but leaving all coding referred to the DAX ( so DATA1 is MINIdax and DATA2 is DAX, because signals can only be applied to DATA1). Anyway even if it worked most of the time, sometimes the real time simulation didn't gave me the same results as in the original DAX strategy (it should earn 5 time less than the bigDax strategy, but it wasn't always like this). Then when a strategy (like my last one) has 350 more lines of code it became tricky to translate the code.

So, as I clearly remember what you've suggested here about symbol mapping, based on your experience if I'm going to simply change (please view XG line in the image below, that's DAX with IQFEED) the BROKER PROFILE for XG# and fill it with the MINIDAX broker symbol the strategy will work over the DAX CHART but operate on the MINIDAX.

Is there any other aspect or things to consider doing this kind of mapping? In late september I would like to go live with my first strategy and I'm seriously thinking to stop convertin strategies from FDAX to FDXM as the symbol mapping seems the better solution.

Thanks in advance

Regards,
David

Hi David,

this is hard to tell without knowing your code, but you should keep in mind that stops etc. will be computed on the chart data and this might result in wrong stop placement especially when you are using the build in reserved words that are amount based.
I would suggest trying it using a simulated account to check if it works for you. In general symbol mapping was designed to trade the same instrument and it might not be possible to trade an instrument with different settings. Check this thread for example: https://www.multicharts.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=51083&p=120907

Thank you for the fast reply.
Sadly Henry clearly say "You can't trade from GCM16 to MGCM6 due to different instrument parameters." and this is the same thing I was planning to do with FDAX and FDXM...

Ok I'll abandon this idea...

Anyway on MC it must be developed a way to trade MINI and MICRO contract by referring to the master related futures quotation... so strange that it has not been implemented....

David
