Trendlines moving when magnifying

Hi all,

I am using MC easylanguage for a while (version 10 and now the beta 11), but I've always found a strange behaviour of trendlines: when magnifying the chart, the trandlines moves.
For example, if I draw a trendline connecting 2 highs... last close is far from the trendline.
If I enlarge the chart (the 2 connected highs are no more visible), the trendlines "moves" and in certain cases last close has already crossed the trendline!
anyone with the same problem? I already tried various combination like (anchor to bars), but nothing changes.

thanks
ciao

eros1973ms,

can you show an example of how it looks exactly? There are some posts in the MC forum that deal with trendline behavior, that appears strange, but is by MC design.
For example this one:

Hi, sorry for the very long time...
Anyways, the problem is still here (also on the very latest MC64 version). Basically what happens is: until the extreme points of the TL are visualized, magnifying works correctly. When they disappear from the visualized time period, the TL moves:

eros1973ms,

you might want to demonstrate the behavior to Multicharts via their helpdesk, as this way they can fix it in case it's a bug.

This happens on NT also and probably on all platforms, mainly due to where you've placed the anchor points; the FROM and TO points when you draw the lines. These are the only real anchors where there always will be a line crossing, everything else will be a dynamic result of the distribution of the chart/bars(and their spacing)/slope. If you try to set your "to"(last, ending) anchor on the bar where it passes through the wick(on your first pic) then the trendline should always be exactly there regardless of what timeframe/zoom you use.

Its a sneaky and deceptive trait for trendlines when switching timeframes..

"Hey! I've got 10 fresh apples to sell, any hungry buyers out here today?!" "Maybe! Just let me check my moving average and RSI!"

@danielk is correct and I don't think it's a bug either, more a "problem" one should be aware of when using trendlines.

Thanks for your answers, but actually I don't think it is normal.
I can understand that when anchor points are not visualized, what you get is an interpolation, but I have used Pro Realtime and Metatrader 4 and non of these have this problem. It is simply not acceptable for a charting software such an aproximation.
I will check with MC helpdesk

thanks

Hi, I am in contact with MC support...but actually I think I understood the problem..as this does not happen always.
The problem happens when the ending anchor point is in the future respect to the data series: when magnifying the anchor point is automatically moved to the end of the magnified screen...generating the difference

ok, so... in order to prevent the problem, the following actions can be taken:
  1. make sure that the final anchor point is not in the "empty" space, where no prices are available. In case, just stop on the last bar then right extend the TL
  2. change the format of the window in order to have the right empty space as "number of bars" and not as "percentage": in this way, even if the anchor point is in the empty space, no movement when magnifying happens

Happy to have solved this for me unacceptable error in MC.
Very good responsiveness of the MC support!

ciao
