I wonder if it is possible to get a chart that shows bars which are a part of a larger time frame?
For example an hourly chart with bars which are only 45 min (from XX:00 to XX:45 of that hour).
This means that every bar begins at XX:00 and ends at XX:45.
Many thanks in advance!
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
In this example I am just interested in to know how the 45-min bar closes with in each hour.
In my example above, the bars should show 10:00-10:45, 11:00-11:45 and so on but 45-min bars shows 10:00-10:45, 10:45-11:30 ...
Those remaining 15 minutes simply should not appear on the chart.
one approach that might work is to create custom sessions for all the times that you want to see in Quotemanager.
Then you can load 45 min bars without the remaining 15 minutes being added to the next bar.
If you don't need the actual bars, but just the values you can create a custom indicator that just tracks the metrics you are interested in and apply it to a lower timeframe chart. This way the indicator can for example show the price of the close 45 minutes into the hour.
Thanks for your response.
I want to analyse the hole bars (get ATR, Range ...) of the same symbol at 15 min, 30 min, 45 min and 1 hour of the same hour.
There are not any problems with 15 min and 30 min because I can divide 1 hour to 4 and 2 but it is different with 45 min.
I do not believe that I can have same symbol with 2 different sessions at the same time in the QuoteManager.
I even noticed another problem with the hourly chart for US stocks. The first bar is always just 30 minutes instead of 60 minutes. The market opens at 09:30 and the first bar shows up at 10:00 on a hourly chart.
Does anyone know if it is possible to correct this?
you can create custom session in Quotemanager (-> Tools -> Session Templates) and then select this session on the chart. This way you can chart the same symbol with different sessions on different charts - there is no problem with that.
Regarding your hourly chart problem, try a 60 minute chart. This might give you what you are looking for.
Now I got what you mean by "Custom Session". The only remaining problem is that there are limitation regarding how many trading session you can have in one Custom Session. The limitation is 28 trading session and 35 are needed.
you will most likely have to contact the MC developers directly for that - maybe this can be raised easily with their help or maybe they agree that your request is valuable for others, too and add it for you.
Thanks for reaching out.
I have discussed your inquiry with our engineers.
There is indeed a limitation for the amount of sessions you can have configured, it is related to the database architecture.
At the moment we do not plan changing this value, but there is a possible workaround.
You can create a study that will export 1 min bars into a text file, without exporting the last 15 minutes in an hour.
Then do ASCII mapping of this file and plot 1 hour chart, that will actually plot the 45 bars for this hour you have exported.
Another possible solution that is on its way is the new feature, targeted to the next minor platform update (10.X) - programming your own custom resolutions."
The custom resolutions will be interesting but what to do until then?
