Multicharts.NET Special Edition (free by AMP) - add own symbols
I was looking for a tool (other than diy in Python, Matlab, R, C...) for strategy development (no live trading so far, not even paper). The particular project involves using n-tick bars made from tick feed for forex pairs from Integral (TrueFX) and Dukascopy (both provide their historical tick data for free). Paid editions of both platfrom and tick data feed are not considered currently.
At the moment I'm testing Multicharts.NET Special Edition (for free from AMP):
downloads.ampfutures.com/multicharts-free
Currently it's MultiCharts.NET.SpecialEdition.9.1.13137.400_Release_x64
As stated on MC forum, it's limited to CQG, Rithmic and TT data providers and brokers:

CQG friendly opens a demo account ()
- Is anybody else here using the free Multicharts.NET Special Edition?
- If yes, did you manage to create own symbols and import historical data? I'm struggling a bit with QuoteManager. What if wanted to apply some technical indicators to something unavailable as financial instrument, like bier price in Munich? There should be a way (also in MC) I believe...
- Am I missing another great tool available for free which would suite the task?
I have just downloaded Multicharts and having difficulty finding training material that I can use to get some familiarity with the software. As I only have 14days to test. I do now want to use Chat too often to get help.
Will let you know how the testing goes.
Any clue how to register for posting on multicharts.com/discussion/? I only see login promts across their site. Do I need to be their direct customer to post?
Hallo User webradio in HH,
zu diesem Thema erhielt ich heute folgende Mail von MC:
"Hello Sir,
The PM section and discussion forum are separate sections and require individual logins. Only licensed users can post on the Discussion Forum. You can view the forum, but posting new inquiries functionality will not be
available for you.
First tier support for the Special Edition version is provided by AMP Futures. Please contact AMP Futures Support if you have any questions regarding MC.NET SE platform:
(Link setzen ist mir hier im Forum verboten, schau einfach auf der AMP-Seite nach, dort im Chat und dann das Thema TechSupport.)
In case you have any questions-feel free to ask our support team.
Contact me for a special price for MultiCharts License!
Best Regards, ... Customer Care Manager ..."
You can create a custom symbol in the QuoteManager for any data provider (like IQFEED:BEER or IB:TASTYBEER), and then import your custom data in the QuoteManager.
MultiCharts .NET on its end won't give an error since it doesn't validate whether or not that particular symbol exists -- you might get an error though when you try to plot real-time data for that symbols, since MultiCharts .NET cannot find that fake symbol. In that case, you need to adjust the time period of the chart up to yesterday to prevent the platform from trying to download BEER prices.
What would you guys consider as second-best Multicharts forum? As a user of the free version, I can't post in MC forum.
I expect to be able to post in AMP support forum (got MC from them) but don't expect much support from AMP stuff (and that's fair).
Hi Bernd,
indeed, I was told the same via MC chat support:
"Only MultiCharts users with paid subscription or Lifetime license are allowed to register on our Discussion forum. However, you can read it and search with no limitations"
I suspect that Futures.io is one of the best places to get help, since other MultiCharts and MultiCharts .NET uses frequent here often. Futures.io is also the most broad, since non-AMP customers can also post here and there are several knowledgeable posters (like @ABCTG here).
I didn't knew AMP had a forum, but don't feel much for going there and spending my free time expanding AMP's online business and offerings. I suspect other users like ABCTG feel the same.
