I'm not a Facebook fan, and MC policy is maybe not perfect, but stop and think few seconds about the deal.
You can have a very good trading platform for $0. Not $1500, not $500, $50 or $1: $0.
There are other "free" platforms, like IB TWS, but can't we compare this with MCDT ? Absolutely not.
MCDT is, for me, superior to platforms like eSignal or MetaStock, which both have a real cost.

But I understand that some people might not be happy with this, and would maybe like to be payed to use MCDT .

I'm not sure why the upset over having to 'Like' MC to download a FREE copy.

It isn't that big of a deal and seems like a reasonable price to receive a FREE copy.
If you were paying for the copy then I can see why you may not want to also be required to 'Like' them. It seems like such a small price for the Free access to the software.

I recently went to download Multicharts DT at the download page which is coded to require you to "recommend" on Facebook. Despite trying on 5 different browsers and 3 machines, I could not download it, so I emailed and asked them if they could email me a download link. I was categorically denied and told that I could get a demo of Multicharts 7(and then buy it after 30 days) or nothing.

Trying to bribe a Facebook "like" out of someone for financial gain is an issue. Kids under 30 have no issue with facebook - there are some adults who have ZERO interest in social networking.

First, I don't use MC, so this is not an issue for me.

But... "Like" is not a bribe, it is simply the cost the vendor requires.
If you have no interest in being social then you have made the choice to use $$ to pay for your copy of MC instead of the Free Facebook 'Like' method.

Either way, it is your choice...
$$ or 'Like' which do you want to spend?

I'm sorry but first it's not "Like" its "Recommend" its not the same thing.
Second how can you recommend something you didn't try?
Third good marketing is finding NEW way to promote a product if you do like everyone else you don't need any staff.

I gave multicharts a trial run a while ago but barely used it and I want to have another crack at it after reading some of the discussions on here. I have tried uninstalling and removing every reference in my registry but it seems to know I have had a trial before. Is it hiding something sneaky somewhere else or has it just registered my machine ID on the multicharts servers, never to be activated again?

Maybe be sending them a short message explaining your situation

If possible also, you could always download Multicharts on another PC.

Good luck

Martin
