Does Multicharts support stop limit orders?

I've just read in their forum that it cannot, even in version 7.

That would kill the product stone dead for me. Surely it can't be correct - can it?

That thread is talking about EasyLanguage. And they've added it already to MC7, it is in the alpha build. For discretionary trading, stop limit orders are supported -- look at post 342 and 345 in this thread, you can see it on my screen shots.

Thanks, Snoop. Thats a relief, though it sounds like a bit of an afterthought.

How is the backtester in MC? I see that they do portfolio back testing, which is good news.

I think it does intrabar tick by tick analysis, but are the MC backtester results reliable? If the backtester is very good, it is probably worth subscribing to MC just for that.

Stop Limit was left out of EasyLanguage. MultiCharts is building on that foundation, and has lots of functions they've added that aren't in the original EL design. That is where you are seeing a lack of Stop Limit. Which has been added in MC7. So I don't think "afterthought" is a correct way to describe it, but thats just me.

For backtesting, I think it has been covered in this thread already, but you can also look at this:

Basically, there is no comparison between NT and MC when it comes to backtesting, imo.

That is good news. The NT backtester has got to be the worst around.

Thanks for clarifying the position about the stop limit orders too.

I am considering subscribing to MC for its backtesting capabilities, if they are superior to Sierra Chart backtesting.

Hi,

I'm trialling Multicharts and having some issues.
1. I'm using data from a market that has a day session and a night session. When I select the day session and a 5min chart , I see only the bars for the day session. When I then select a daily bar period, the bar reflects the 24hr period not the day session that is still set. How do I get day session bars displayed as daily bars?

2. I bring up a chart on the screen, display all of the bars that I'm interested in ie specific date range. I then do a print preview or direct print, and the result that is displayed or printed is about 2/3 the number of bars that are displayed on the screen. How do I get it to print the actual chart data on the screen not a random subset?

NW27.

No not really, have been too busy with other things to be beta testing it much.

So you still use x-trader ? You didn't switched to the MC dom ? Do you have to pay for a static dom extra per trade ?

@NW27 I would go to MultiCharts website during the day and do live support so they can see the issues exactly and resolve them.

I’d love to hear some feedback as well regarding the new chart trader added in Multicharts v7 and how it is compared to chart trading in Ninja, for example is it possible to setup ATMs similar to what is available on Ninja?
Would Multicharts v7 be a viable alternative to Ninja or does it seem buggy (I know it’s an alpha version).
