Mike,

I don't think its a bad idea at all to change and i am considering it myself. I find that once I get ninja up and running it seems to be okay, but when i change something on a chart like from a minute chart to a range chart it seems to need a lot of time to do so. I also find that getting my workspace to load in the morning, is at times, impossible. Today was a day like that and it was pissing me off. I paid for a lifetime license as well and I like the fact that the broker covers the exchange fees. I used to use Tradestation and if you wanted to ad a market that was not on CBOT, for example, it may cost $60 more per month. I guess that is a small price to pay for better reliability.

I hope you get it all worked out. I'm not sure what to do myself.

David

I have been a fan of Multicharts for a long time.

I love the charting, the entire program runs very smooth and isn't a huge resource hog, has growing utilization of pretty much every data stream known which is great. Personally I love the easylanguage but don't see why they couldn't utilize C# as well (OEC Trader can utilize both).

The pains...

Support is Russian and a pain. They have yet to add the little things that really piss me off... things promised years ago... like GASP - keyboard shortcuts. I use a LOT of drawing tools and keyboard shortcuts save SO much time. They told me this feature would be available years ago and I told them I'd buy a license as soon as it did - I still haven't purchased a license.

They push a lot of stuff out and lots of releases, betas, etc... 99% of them are stable to the point of working but sometimes they have a lot of stupid bugs.

I guess i'm still waiting for a release to come a long and be a truly polished product. Until then i'm using OEC trader and paying zilch.

Speaking of costs, it should also be mentioned that MultiCharts has an extensive DRM protection system. While I sometimes curse these types of things, in some cases I think it makes sense. NinjaTrader for instance can be cracked very easily...

Mike

What are you talking about? The NT platform code? Custom strategies? Indicators?

Kindly elaborate.

Mike, I've heard MC has Point bars, are they like Range bars? Also, can you get free datafeed like you can have in NT?

Thanks

there are point bars for NT as well.

Anyway this turned into a lengthy post and this... one thing I need to do though, as you brought up, is find a nice repository of EasyLanguage indicators.

One resource besides tradestation.com is at tssupport. At Knowledgebase you can seach for indicators and leave the search term blank. You'll get something like 400 indicators and functions that they've collected. Although not all 400 are gems, exactly

EL is straightforward enough that I usually just code stuff rather than look for existing implementations. Unless it draws trendlines all over the screen.. then I hope someone else has already done it.

Try to be unemotional (this isn't a Sports Illustrated photo shoot) and give NT more time. Given your situation, what is there to lose?

NT fking up literally costs money in botched trades and down time. that is what there is to lose.

mentioned above MC support based on how active their forum is = bad comparison. TS forums is ~15-20 yrs worth of data and knowledge from way more people vs NT.

thus far there's been nothing i couldn't get easy language to do.

Multicharts recently re-did their DRM protection adding 3 separate servers that check your ID against their database to ok your program to start up... but even this has been bypassed (by tricking the program into referencing a local ip 192.168.1.1 rather than phoning home...) My point is simply that they all have been cracked.

The bad news about their new DRM is this - if you want to work offline (and don't have internet access) with stored data you can't because the software can't authenticate... thumbs down from me.

Does MC have range bars? It's not clear on their website (which looks like a science project from a 10 year old).

So people are getting MC for free? Is that your point?

This has nothing to do with cracking custom coded strategies or indicators which is what I am interested in.

yes MC has range and volume bars. I think they call the range bars point bars. not sure. What I showed were point and figure bars. might have misunderstood what tellytub was asking.

in case someone is interested in PnF bars, I got them from Richard (move the markets).

Move the Markets|Futures Trading, Custom Programming, and Commentary

ps. if Richard would finally accept an executive position at ninja, we would have a perfect charting and trading platform. what is he waiting for?
