historical NT FX data into MC

I just started with the MC trial and am attempting to load 2 years worth of NT7 FX minute data into MC.
I downloaded the Export Data strat from MXASJ and ran a backtest on the default instrument list, left all the settings as they were, changed the date accordingly, and ran the strat. (I'm not sure if I should change the session template to "forex".)
I get multiple messages of "invalid Path. Please check your Path and Filename variables.".
Have I set up the backtest incorrectly?(If there has been a previous post with a step by step guide on migrating the FX data from NT7 into MC, please point me in the direction)
Thanks

MC DT

I tried MC DT and generally wanted to like it and I might take a look at it again after it gets to wherever they think it needs to be. At this point, it is missing a couple major things for me.

The big one, no Ray tool, only a line tool. Really?

No closed trade history display

No commission display(or calculation into account balance)

No analysis tools

No pre-defined symbol list for their *SUPPORTED?* brokers. Having to manually enter your symbols. It took 3 days(with their tech support) to figure out I had to do this myself(in 5 minutes, and that it was a very simple thing that they could have done and included with the package.)

MultichartsDT, IMO is not ready for primetime(very alpha), but a solid concept.

For those that trade with MB Trading and don't need Algorithmic trading, Desktop Pro is coming along nicely and they are working on implementing full trading from the chart soon. For me Desktop Pro eliminates the need for a high price charting app(while maintaining all of the functionality), it is very stable and there's not the extra layer you get with MC.

Adding symbols to QuoteManager

I am just starting to learn
Please register on futures.io to view futures trading content such as post attachment(s), image(s), and screenshot(s).

Add Symbol... does not list Zen-fire. This does give the impression that MC doesn't completely support it. So I must add Zen-fire symbols individually under Custom Futures. I saw the option to Import, but cannot find a list of Zen-fire symbols to import. Worse, once I have created them, it is not possible to export them?

I did notice when making the Zen-fire CL symbol, I could define roll-over according to volume, which is great.

I do think MC should have a library file of the symbols for each source. That would make this a LOT easier (more user friendly). At least let us COPY from one data Source to another so all the details can duplicated quickly and accurately. And let us export our symbol list for later importing.

Does anyone know how to export symbols? Can I edit a list off-line to mass produce the ZF symbols? Or does anyone have a Zen-fire futures list which can be imported (please)?

I have also noticed, after creating my Zen-fre symbols, when I sync'd up to our team database, all my Zen-fire symbols were gone. (The rest of the team uses a different feed.) Again the desire to be able to re-import.

thanks!!

Training / Education for MC

I've been looking for a way to quickly learn the MultiCharts program -- I did find these 11 videos. And some documentation (all old versions). I realize that Ninja is a bit over the top in this area, with their weekly live sessions, and multitude of videos; but for MC this seems a bit lite, to put it mildly.

Does anyone else found any other training or education for MultiCharts? Has anyone made any?

Thanks!

I haven't seen any other videos or guides...

Btw: I am on my paper trading IB account now - connected through MC 7. I am testing exit strategies and there seems to be a problem. Or maybe it's not a problem and I just don't understand it right. (maybe because there is no training material ) For example: I setup Bracket strategy to 10 ticks profit and 10 or 15 ticks stoploss. Then I place stop market order into my chart or DOM. So far everything is perfect. When price hits the order it applies strategy correctly. But not in every trade and that's the problem.

Sometimes when the price hits it too quickly it makes a total mismatch. :-o It enters into position but profit and stop are moved into a completely different area. For example I have stoploss 15 and profit 10 and stop market is placed on 100.10 on CL. I enter position on 100.10 but my stoploss appears on 99.77 and profit on 100.00. It means both of them appear under the original stop market order.

And the second problem - there seems to be a problem in communication with TWS. Sometimes I enter position and it duplicates itself. Strange thing - even when I entered with one contract it takes 2 or it takes two positions with one contract in the same time...

So I wonder - is this happening only on alpha? (of course there is no possibility to trade live when it does those mistakes) If it is only on alpha, maybe what I posted it here will help improve the beta release. If it's me and I am doing mistakes then if you know what I am doing wrong - please tell me.

It's not a bug. A bug is when something doesn't perform as expected. With the symbol mapping, it performs as expected, because we haven't built that functionality yet. It's an upcoming feature development, and I can't give you a precise ETA, simply because we don't know yet. It won't be in the upcoming beta, but maybe it will be in the release.

I know what bug means I used this word simply because showing trades over a different datasource chart seems like a matter of course to me. I just didn't think that there could be a problem with something like that.

Yes, MultiCharts has extremely poor integration with Zen Fire. They need a symbol dictionary, but it seems they think otherwise (makes no sense to me as to why).

There is a dictionary for IQfeed. But if you need Zen Fire symbology you probably just need to make a post here or in the MC forum for each instrument and ask for all the settings. You can read back a few pages and find info here in this thread which was put together by me or others and piece it together on your own, but for someone coming from NT the task of setting up Quote Manager is a very daunting one, and a huge turn off. I would imagine a high percentage of MultiCharts trial users never get past this problem.

However, once you do learn QuoteManager you'll find it is actually a nice interface and the charting of MultiCharts is superior to other platforms, imo.

Due to time constraints, please do not PM me if your question can be resolved or answered on the forum.

Need help?
1) Stop changing things. No new indicators, charts, or methods. Be consistent with what is in front of you first.
2) Start a journal and post to it daily with the trades you made to show your strengths and weaknesses.
3) Set goals for yourself to reach daily. Make them about how you trade, not how much money you make.
4) Accept responsibility for your actions. Stop looking elsewhere to explain away poor performance.
5) Where to start as a trader? Watch this webinar and read this thread for hundreds of questions and answers.

Thank you for voicing your concern. It has not escaped us that there are virtually no training materials. We are working on this, and this week we should complete (and put on our website) current manuals on how to connect each data feed and each broker in the upcoming MC7 beta & MCDT. As a start these will be text instructions with screenshots, which will be a basis for instructional videos. The next step will be creating videos on different aspects of MC, such as 1) From creating a chart to placing a trade, 2) Precision Backtesting, 3)Manual Trading, 4) Intricacies of Optimization and so on. These videos will then serve as a basis for webinars, some recorded, and some personally presented. Then, the plan is to create a Wiki, which will will serve as a central place for knowledge and how-to-use articles by traders (as opposed to the forum, which serves to answer specific questions, just like Live Chat or phone).

So, that's the plan so far. If anyone has any suggestions on what else to implement, we will be happy to consider.

We have been informed by Zen-Fire that they are working on a new API, which will include a number of improvements, including a Symbol Lookup function. Once the API is completed by ZF, we can integrate it into the platform, for everyone's benefit.

Chart X axis in exchange time (vs local)?

Does anyone know how I can change my chart X-axis to reflect exchange time instead of local time?

This is one thing NT could not do, and it has always been an issue for me. I sidestepped my disappearing Zen-fire symbols by subscribing to eSignal. I noticed that w/in eSignal, I seem to have the option of exchange time. I am hoping MC can too.

And I am delighted to hear MC will be adding updated docs & training materials. Webinars here on futures.io (formerly BMT) would be good too.
