So I'm running the trial of MultiCharts and feel handicapped because I can't make it do the simplest thing. I'm trying to get it to view historical tick data without a live feed.

I imported some ES tick data (thanks to puppyeye and Big Mike) with the Quote Manager and cannot get it to display in a chart window.

This is what I see:

Any suggestions?

Imported data would require the ASCII mapping selection. Your screen shot shows one tab to the right of where you choose the instrument, but based on the title of the chart window, you selected eSignal when you should be selecting ASCII mapping.

Basically:
1. Create new symbol in Quote Manager.
2. Choose ASCII Mapping for Data Source.
3. Import data to new symbol.
4. New Chart in MultiCharts, data source = ASCII Mapping.

Mike

Beautiful that did the trick, thank you much sir.

I am finding that optimization takes FOREVER on just 1 day of tick data. I'm running on a quad core with 4gb of RAM. Is this normal? How much data do you use when optimizing?

I optimize usually over 2 years of tick data. Usually I can let it run for just a few minutes to get a very good idea of the result of the strategy (just need 10% or so). Check your code, some indicators are very resource hungry (like the Phased moving average for instance).

I've been trying MC for the past three weeks.

Has anyone had any success with multiple timeframes? I can get two timeframes and get the signals to reference from the correct timeframe. But I can't get the orders to operate on the correct timeframe. Especially, I want the stops to be processed on the lower time frame because of the next bar clause:

Sell All Contracts next bar At stoploss Stop;

which I want to trigger on the lower timeframe. Any ideas on how to achieve this?

The limitation with MC is it cant trade any other Data series other then Data1.

Now if ur stop strategy depends on Data series 2 , it should get trigger from there.

say
stoploss = lowest ( low of data2,3);

sell all contracts next bar at stoploss stop;

This should do the trick.

If ur stop is based on pure price calculation / indicator . It shouldnt have problem at all in any time frame.

Make sure u have intrabarordergeneration TRUE.

Multicharts is working on a DOM and a manual trader release forecast this SEPTEMBER.

If they will release it in september, they will take MANY business from ninjatrader customers.
