Multicharts has now a .NET FREE version.
MultiCharts .NET Starter Edition
With this version you will be able to trade 2 symbols.
If you want to trade more you will need to pay for the standard .NET version.
Let's hope with this free version programmers decide to invest also in this version and start to code all sort of free studies.

MultiCharts .NET Starter Edition is a free version of our award-winning trading software. It was designed for beginner traders to ease the burden of buying expensive software when you are just starting out. Starter Edition offers all features of MultiCharts .NET (best charting in the industry, advanced strategy development capabilities in C# and Visual Basic, integration with Visual Studio, high-precision backtesting , fast optimization, and LIVE TRADING capabilities both manually and automated), but you can only load any two symbols into the platform. This is currently the best software available for free to traders in the market. You can keep using the software for as long as you wish, and give it to friends as well.

Did you installed the MultiCharts .NET Starter Edition?
If you did, I'm sure the 30 days notice that appeared refers to IQFeed services, not Multicharts.

Thanks, I already read that and look at the forum but not much info on the starter edition. The connection procedure should be the same but you never know.
I'll ask on that forum.

I am still gutted I missed out buying the full .net version last summer at $497. Even on special now it costs $1297.

For what I see here, the SE QuoteManager is identical to the standard version. The Data Sources settings are all identical so if a setting is working on the standard version it will work on the SE version.
You must be missing some setting there.

Quoting
We had another free product last year called
MultiCharts Discretionary Trader, which was discontinued after a year of existence because we felt it wasn’t enough for traders. We underestimated the amount of custom analytics that people were using, and MCDT never took off because you couldn’t create anything custom. We did some more brainstorming and came up with a new way of serving small cap investors with a professional platform – MC .NET Starter Edition where you can create complex scripts in C# and Visual Basic (even using Visual Studio).
Quoting
This platform is here to stay, forever. It’s completely free, so download away and start charting, analyzing, sharing and even trading. Give it to all your friends, colleagues, bosses and family, maybe even your dog or cat . Upload it to to any site, blog, Twitter and anywhere you like – spread the goodness around! The more people use MC .NET Starter Edition, the larger the community will be, and you can talk to more and more traders, and have more developers on hand.
Introducing FREE MultiCharts .NET Starter Edition MultiCharts Blog

I'm confused about the limitation on two securities at the same time.
Can one still do portfolio backtesting with such a limitation ?
Edit - two securities at a time applies so the answer is you can only backtest two at a time

Only volume profile indicators.
They don't have market profile but I advise all interested in this to request them such tools.
The more requesting it the easiest it will be for them to build it.

A quote from their support: "In MultiCharts .NET Starter Edition you can have only 2 symbols in the database at the same time." Which means at any time you can only chart, backtest or trade on those two symbols. If you want to chart a third symbol, you will have to delete one of the existing two first in your database I suppose.

is there any specific PM so that I can vote?
by the way does MC have paper trading capabilities like NT? I can't seem to find a way to add commission to live/papertrade
they really need to have better documentation

All market profile requests on PM have been signed as Implemented since they considered the study that a user wrote and it's now available in the standard version but which is far from being useful.
I've just created one:
MultiCharts Project Management - Issue MC-1307 - Real Market Profile charts
There's no paper trading capabilities on MC but that tool, according to a thread on the forum, is being developed with no ETA though.
The way the regular MC works is no different from the .NET.
The manual for the regular version should be the same for the .NET.
What is lacking in .NET is a manual for the libraries and stuff for programmers. Everything else, menus, options and the like you will find on the regular manual.
Have you checked their Wiki
MultiCharts
The entire manual is there.
In terms of commissions... are you talking about strategies?
I'm really not the best person to talk about automatic strategies but on the top left chart you have an option for the strategies properties where you set the commissions.

Thanks for the help, it was my fault, for CGQ you need new login details, about 2 years ago I tried Multicharts and it was easy to set up but I just remember back then I was still using ZenFire.
I asked for a demo CQG just to try MC and it's working now.
One more thing, I read on MC website that they added a simulator engine for ZenFire some time ago, did not find anything about CGQ so, I assume it does not have one right? I can't see it on mine but since I have a sim account... It could be disabled.

MC doesn't have any simulator engine.
According to one of the staff on the forum, they are working on one but there's no ETA for it.

MarkG,
that's correct. I think when MC was offered via Interactive Brokers (either for free or for a monthly fee of 39$ depending on your needs) it was discontinued.

The discontinued MultiCharts .NET Starter Edition was not offered via Interactive Brokers.
MC .NET SE has been replaced with MC .NET for TWS. This latter is offered through Interactive Brokers and not discontinued.
arnie
MC .NET Starter Edition was discontinued although one could say that it's now available through Interactive Brokers.
One of the biggest differences between both is that MC .NET SE only offered two symbols, but did had free trading from inside MultiCharts and the choice of data feeds.
MC .NET for TWS has unlimited symbols, but no QuoteManager or Portfolio Backtester and trading from inside MultiCharts (either automatic or with the chart trader) requires the monthly subscription. Using it for chart analysis is free, and it also offers all programming features that the regular MC .NET version offers.
