I give MC yet another chance... but nothing's different this time around.

Okay, so I decided to give MC a try. Downloaded MC8 today. Right off the bat, had problems with symbols. Commas instead of decimal in the ES, and wrong format (it shows 141,100). Looking up and editing symbols NOT easy. I have never had such problems before (and experienced this last year trying MC as well) setting up the most traded futures symbol in the world in a DOM.

Then, to my amazement, I discover that there is STILL no T&S window. A year and a half ago when I tried MC, I thought it was unbelievable that there was no T&S, but still.......? MC, how hard is this? How can you say that you have created a trading program when you have no way to view transactions? This is the most basic tool for many traders, and was around a hundred years ago before there ever was a chart plotted by hand. The worst part is that there are numerous support tickets requesting this feature for several years, and MC's rep on this site has posted twice about a year ago promising that it's in the works. So I ask.... lazy, or apathetic? Because the community obviously wants it.

Finally, my primary charts use high-low bars. None in MC though. Goodbye again, multicharts. Catch you in another couple of years I guess.

The comma is a function of your computer's regional setting. It has nothing to do with MultiCharts.

Point well taken, though I am surprised -- that being the case, I still wish the default price of ES were 1407.50 and not 140.750.

the decimal place is set by your chart, it is only a presentation, the real size of the decimal is much larger than that. And again, it has nothing to do with MultiCharts. The number comes from your exchange, MultiCharts merely formats it for your visual consumption. Whether you see a 2 decimal or 4 decimal number is immaterial, the number behind the scene is the same. You must have recycled a forex chart to display ES, that's why it is showing more decimals? I don't know. What you are concern about is very petty. Which shows your ignorance about many things computers/charting/trading. If those little things, which may or may not be real, bother you, then I would say: LOL

Actually here are the steps I took. Maybe you can help me with where I went wrong:

1) Installed MC
2) Added my broker (TT)
3) Opened new DOM window
4) Pressed search button, had to enter TT info again
5) Searched for ES under Futures, found ESU2
6) Numbers are in 140,575 format. Tried using CME settings, did not yield correct format.

So, MC thinks that 140575 is in fact one hundred forty thousand, etc... Yes, it's a regional setting, it's the correct regional setting for separating thousands and so on. But shouldn't MultiCharts have a per-instrument setting (and possibly per data feed) that recognizes that the price is in fact not 140575, but 1405.75?

Put another way, of all the trading software I have ever tried, I have not yet seen one, even the dumb programs, do something quite so dumb out of the box. I was a software engineer for several years, and have seen my share of programmers who think that their way is the best way, without realizing that the users are the ones who actually matter. Maybe MC had reasons for this, but if the result is poor, then it doesn't really matter how brilliant they were trying to be.

But... even if we accept that I am an idiot and don't know much about computers or charting or trading, what's the reason for MC not having a T&S window after so many requests and so long, despite it being a coding task a monkey could do?

Yes, for IBM and Oracle. But back to the point which you seem to be avoiding:

And, if you could kindly explain to me what I should do differently to get the correct number format in the DOM...? What would the correct process be after the install?

TT sents our their data different to all other data vendors. Here is a solution for the ES

It sounds to me that the OP wanted to just open multicharts and have things working the way he/she wanted it in terms of personal preference.

The OP should of probably spent some time tweaking the program as multicharts is very customisable.
